Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive Software Developer (Mainframe)This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of PACCAR's Mainframe applications. The development and maintenance activity predominantly uses COBOL, IDMS, JCL.

Key Responsibilities –

  • Develop, maintain and deploy knowledge within the own field of expertise, keeping pace with new developments.
  • Translate requirements into feasible concepts with their impact and boundary conditions.
  • Develop a functionality, application or system that meets the specifications, following developing rules.
  • Translate specifications into a validation plan against which the deliverables should be tested.
  • Validate the functionality, application or system against the requirements and specifications.
  • Adapt the functionality, application or system in case deviations are identified
  • Document all relevant information following documentation rules.
  • Look for opportunities to improve the processes or the products within the own domain and discuss these with the appropriate decision makers.
  • Plan, assign and coordinate activities, monitor progress and take appropriate actions within own level of authority or escalate to a higher level of authority if required.
  • Advanced computer system skills including use of word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Build an application OR design isolated functionality or application
  • In-depth knowledge of development and design tools or product/system functionality within own field of expertise.
  • Signals shortcomings in current products or systems within the own field of expertise, recommends improvements and implements these after approval, identifies shortcomings in processes and suggests improvements
  • Introduces and drives new approaches on technical level within own field of expertise.
  • Identifies and analyses requirements and translates these requirements into design specifications
  • Works within agreed work plan and is subject to managerial control and review of end results
  • Environment: Mainframes, COBOL, JCL, IDMS, IDMS-DC, LORD, MAID & ROSCOE.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.

Knowledge & Skills REQUIRED:

  • 5-8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience including code development, scripting, workflow and data mapping.
  • Agile experience a plus
  • Languages and Technologies: Mainframe, COBOL, JCL
  • Development Tools: JCL, DFSORT, File-Aid,
  • Cloud: Azure
  • Methodologies: Agile, Scrum
  • Database: IDMS

Technical / Professional Experience Desired:

  • Development: TSO/ISPF, Platinum, Abend-aid, SPUFI, ICETOOL
  • Methodologies: Waterfall
  • Database: DB2
