Job Description

Join the leader in entertainment innovation and help us design the future. At Dolby, science meets art, and high tech means more than computer code. As a member of the Dolby team, you’ll see and hear the results of your work everywhere, from movie theaters to smartphones. We continue to revolutionize how people create, deliver, and enjoy entertainment worldwide. To do that, we need the absolute best talent. We’re big enough to give you all the resources you need, and small enough so you can make a real difference and earn recognition for your work. We offer a collegial culture, challenging projects, and excellent compensation and benefits, not to mention a Flex Work approach that is truly flexible to support where, when, and how you do your best work.

The Entertainment Sound Tech Content Creation group in the Dolby Barcelona office is looking for an intern willing to write, extend, and test software that enables the next generation of Dolby Cinema, Home Theater, and Music technologies. You’ll join a team pushing the boundaries of immersive audio and gain hands‑on experience contributing to tools and workflows used across professional content‑creation environments.

In this role, you’ll help improve our audio and file‑processing components while also enhancing our team’s workflows and infrastructure using AI and other innovative methods. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers, analyze performance test data, and present results that support ongoing technical decisions—all while developing your skills in a supportive environment designed for learning and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of enhancements to our audio and file‑processing components, working closely with developers and testers in the Dolby Barcelona office.
  • Help improve our team’s workflows and infrastructure using AI‑driven approaches and other innovative methods.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to plan, document, and carry out meaningful code improvements.
  • Present and document your results in a clear and organized way.
  • Learn and apply industry best practices in code quality, software optimization, and modern continuous‑delivery techniques.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Audiovisual or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, with hands‑on programming or scripting experience.
  • Solid C/C++ programming skills.
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Experience in Python programming and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with software environments such as Windows, Linux, and macOS, including Unix/Linux terminals.
  • Foundational knowledge of audio signal‑processing concepts.

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of real‑time audio programming principles and thread‑synchronization techniques.
  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization of software systems.
  • Interest in learning how to develop and deploy AI‑based applications and LLM solutions.
  • Experience using Git and working with modern version‑control workflows.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of spatial audio and professional audio-production workflows.
  • A genuine passion for audio, media production, and the tools that enable creative work.

Eligibility:

Available to work full-time or part-time for the duration of the internship; the selected candidate is expected to work at least two days per week on-site from the Barcelona office.

About Dolby Laboratories

We're the rain on the roof in a movie. The music flowing through your earbuds when you're at the gym. The footsteps lurking behind you in a video game. The voice of a colleague on a call who seems to be right next to you. The sight of a breathtakingly bright and vivid sunset on your TV.

Making experiences come alive through technology is what we do. It's been our mission since day one.

It began with our founder, Ray Dolby, a visionary scientist and inventor. As a young engineer and music lover, he was driven to improve the listening experience. And with that simple motivation, plus countless hours of experimentation, he created a solution—a solution that was elegant and practical, highly sophisticated, and wholly devoted to the artist's vision. Even as we've become a global company, Dolby Laboratories continues to reflect Ray Dolby's values. Here, science meets art. And high tech goes far beyond computer code.

Founded in 1965 and headquartered in San Francisco, Dolby has grown into a leading global innovator and developer of audio, imaging and voice technologies for cinema, home theaters, PCs, mobile phones, and games. Our products include Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Dolby Voice, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Today, over 2,000 individuals around the globe share their talents and energy to enable the most immersive experiences that technology can deliver.
