Profile
Software Architect holds the overall technical ownership of a large area of work, a product or a part of a product, a specific technology or a client solution/s. His her main responsibility is to make sure the area of work of responsibility adhere to the architectural and technical principles as per the guidelines issued by the Architecture Board. Software architects often plays a delivery role in addition to the main architect role where they hold the total ownership of the technical delivery including design, quality at source and drive the technical team for timely deliveries within budget, supporting the project directors. They are expected to mentor and empower technical teams and work collaboratively with other interested parties. Some architect roles will have line manager responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Owns overall technical aspects of either a product, sub-product or a very large technical area.
Proactivelyidentify and manage the implementation of allarchitecturalchanges and improvements to the area in servicing the business better Theyshould work with product managers in the area to identifyupcoming business trends and technical improvementsthat are required to service them and work towardssecuring investments via valid business proposals
Responsible for aligning and growing the product asnecessary to the upcoming technology trends and demands whilemaintaining or improving the non-functionalaspectssuchas performance, resiliency, security, hardware efficiency and operability
Theyshould ensure the architectural designs and the codebase are maintainable and extensible Expects them to research and identifycrediblethird-party solutionsincluding open source solutionthat can be embedded into the product.
They shouldrepresent the area as the technical owner in senior internal and external stakeholder forums
They are a member of the Architecture review board and are expected to provide inputs to review areasoutside the responsible area. Alsoisresponsible for getting the Architecture review board assistance for anychangesalternativesthatdeemedsophisticated and do notfallinto the general build patterns.
They shouldprovide guidance to the successful delivery and implementation of customer projects of the area. In certaincases, the customer can be anotherinternal product or a solution
They should drive and provide the technical leadership to the teams for high quality and timely delivery of customer solutions Shouldidentify and highlight any technical or delivery risks beforehand and should work veryclosely with the other business, quality and delivery management stakeholders in the overall software delivery.
Holds the responsibility of training and mentoring alldirect and indirect reports that include engineers and junior architectswho work for the area and in the related customer deliveries. Special emphasis on the training will be requiredwhen new technologies or design methodologiesneed to be adopted in getting the team members and project stakeholders up to speed.
Most software architectrolescarry line manager responsibilities for a team of Tech leads and associate architects
Should ensure that the team is following the recommended SDLC procedures and standards. They are responsible for maintaining engineering baseline metrics within required limits and shouldcontributefully for team level baseline metrics to achieve required limits
Encouraged to provide recommendations for overall company software architecturalprinciples and SDLC standards.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or similar technical field
Proven software engineering and architect background in C++
At least 10 years of industry experience and at least 2 years’ experience at the architect capacity
Experience in providing technical leadership to medium size teams
Up to date with modern IT trends
Hands-on experience in cloud technology, different open source technologies and integration of them
Understanding of the full SDLC and related tools
