Opportunity Overview

Join our ECAD Solutions team in North Reading, MA, as a Software Support Engineer within Teradyne's Design Technology Group. In this role, you’ll be a key contributor to a small, collaborative team whose work directly supports a global PCB Design workforce responsible for delivering high quality, manufacturable PCB designs that power advanced semiconductor test systems. As a trusted resource for Hardware Engineers and PCB Layout Engineers, you’ll provide expert guidance on Cadence Allegro, internally developed software tools, Teradyne's PCB Design process flow, and more. This is a hands-on, impactful role where your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will make a tangible difference in the success of our engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical support to Hardware Engineering and PCB Design Engineers using Cadence software tools including DE-HDL, System Capture, Allegro, and Sigrity to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and provide hands on assistance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues through reproducing problems, isolating root causes, and delivering effective solutions in collaboration with Cadence support when necessary
  • Document defects, verify fixes, and submit product improvement requests based on Engineering feedback and recurring technical challenges
  • Create technical documentation and training materials to help internal teams
  • Deliver technical training sessions to support both employee onboarding and new software adoption
  • Participate in testing of new software releases to ensure compatibility with Teradyne's custom environment before deployment
  • Manage access control to websites and fileservers to ensure secure and efficient workflows
  • Identify, diagnose, and implement bug fixes for software issues affecting engineering workflows

All About You

You have built things, broken things, and figured out why they broke. You like being the person who gets the call when something is not working, not because you know every answer, but because you know how to find it. You are comfortable moving between an engineer’s hierarchical schematic and the code they use to generate BOMs. You don’t need perfect documentation to be useful. You read between the lines, ask clarifying questions, and get people unstuck. When a customer says, “it is not working”, you know that could mean a whole list of things, and you are patient enough to figure out which one.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in software support, software engineering, or working with EDA tools
  • Strong familiarity with Cadence PCB tools, including System Capture, Allegro PCB Designer, and/or Sigrity (preferred)
  • The ability to turn a vague customer question like “export physical has errors” into structured troubleshooting plans
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments, and basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python, PHP, Perl, Cadence Skill, Tcl/Tk, HTML, Ruby, MySQL
  • Experience using AI solutions to solve engineering tasks
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills with a methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines, including hardware and PCB layout teams
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership within a small, fast-paced team, but know when to pull in a colleague or escalate when a problem is outside your scope
  • Customer service mindset with a genuine eagerness to help users succeed and a drive to continuously learn and grow
  • You can manage competing priorities across multiple customer cases, internal projects, and team initiatives without losing track of what matters most
