Job Title: Varsity Softball Head Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Varsity Softball Head Coach to lead our high school softball program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes. This position plays a critical role in shaping a competitive, respectful, and team-oriented program that reflects the values of Cooperstown athletics.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct high-level practices that emphasize skill development, strategy, and teamwork
- Develop and implement game plans, manage in-game decisions, and lead the team throughout the season
- Teach and reinforce fundamental and advanced softball techniques
- Promote sportsmanship, character, academic success, and leadership among student-athletes
- Supervise athletes during all practices, games, and team-related activities
- Collaborate with JV and Modified coaches to maintain a cohesive program philosophy
- Maintain equipment, uniforms, and team records
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, and the athletic department
- Ensure compliance with all NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district regulations and policies
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Previous head or assistant coaching experience at the varsity or collegiate level
- Strong knowledge of softball rules, strategies, and advanced techniques
- Proven leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor student-athletes on and off the field
- Experience coordinating with athletic departments and managing team operations
