Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

• Monitor each supervisee’s compliance/performance with employment expectations related to productivity, work habits and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

• Provide clinical supervision and consultation to Clinical Social Workers, BERS and their staff.Review caseloads, identify problems/barriers to care.Provide advice, guidance, education as needed to assist staff to formulate plans/strategies to address unmet needs of patients and families.

• Provide back-up clinical social work coverage to seven patient care units during the temporary absence of clinical social workers.

• Provide direct Clinical Social Work services as appropriate due to the complicity or sensitivity of cases.

• Assume responsibility for the clinical and administrative management of the Clinical Social Work department, including development and implementation of policy.

• Coordinate and supervise the Performance Improvement program in the Clinical Social Work department.

• Coordinate the monthly Case Review program.

• Coordinate and provide opportunities for Clinical Social Work education.

• Serve on hospital-wide committees or assign staff as appropriate.

• Attend Mental Health Rounds and Discharge Planning meetings on units to assist the CSW and interdisciplinary team to formulate safe and appropriate plans for discharge for complex, high risk cases and situations.

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determiningsubordinates training needs; motivating subordinates to work effectively; and determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.

• Ability to perform Clinical Social Work Responsibilities including assessments and discharges.

• Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of supervision.

• Ability to teach social work clinical methods and techniques to social workers, graduate and undergraduate students and to communicate social work principles and goals to other human service personnel.

• Ability to evaluate the professional clinical performance of social workers, graduate workers and social work students.

• Ability to plan, assign and coordinate the activities of others.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive experience providing clinical assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and evidence-based therapeutic services.

• Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, substance use disorders, trauma, or other complex behavioral health needs.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, healthcare providers, and community partners.

• Strong knowledge of behavioral health best practices, care coordination, and case management principles.

• Experience developing individualized treatment plans and coordinating referrals to community-based resources.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing clinical documentation and reports.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a clinical social worker after earning a Master's degree in social work. Based on assignment to second-level supervisory positions, at least one year of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

- A Doctorate in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, or human services may be substituted for the required nonsupervisory experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.

- No substitution will be permitted for the required supervisory experience. One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Master's or higher degree in social work is required.

LICENSES:

- Licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work is required.

- Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
