Job Description

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Social Worker, MSW

The Social Worker will enhance existing services to include a thorough assessment of families’ long-term goals at intake and development of service plan to incorporate small achievable tasks leading to permanent housing with enrollment and/or referrals to the community resources.

Volunteers of America-Greater New York's Creston Avenue Residence is a residence that provides housing to chronically homeless single adults, chronically homeless families, and those at serious risk of becoming homeless, as well as veterans with HUD-VASH vouchers, and families that meet income eligibility requirements and do not require supportive services. Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Social Work with MSW.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development, emotional/behavioral health and mental health, family dynamics, parent-child relationships, diagnostic classifications.
• In addition, the position requires a reasonable combination of skills in the following areas: strengths based, solution focused, and family centered practice; experience working with diverse cultures and ethnicities; knowledge of child welfare policies, regulations, safety, permanency, and well-being.

Social Worker, MSW Principal Responsibilities:
1. Manage a caseload.
2. Complete Assessment Summary and make determination on type of intervention needed for each family.
3. Develop individualized service plans to focus on recovery and wellness.
4. Maintain service documentation to include client progress notes, observations and interactions about clients and incident reporting when necessary.
5. Provide on-call crisis intervention support.
6. Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services and support recreational and/or socialization activities.
7. Maintain program’s resource directory.
8. Conduct outreach to community-based organizations.
9. Refer families to appropriate community providers to address family needs.
