Job Description

The Integrated Forensic Program (IFP) provides mental health assessment and treatment to individuals living with serious mental illness who have come into contact with the law.    Duties:
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy following best practice standards, consistent with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Provide evidence based social work biopsychosocial assessment, consultation and treatment (individual, groups, couples, and family) for clients with complex, mental health, physical health and concurrent substance use disorders 
  • Complete risk assessment and crisis intervention plans.
  • Work collaboratively, cooperatively and effectively within the Integrated Forensic Program and with hospital and community partners such as the police and justice system
  • Engage client, family and caregivers in the clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure Ontario Review Board disposition conditions are adhered through clinical supervision and assistance.
  • Meet with clients and clinical team to communicate as directed with the Ontario Review Board.
  • Provide evidence to the Ontario Review Board as requested or directed at NCR patient annual hearings.
  • Conduct Approved Person Assessments and Approved Accommodations Assessments according to Ontario Review Board and hospital standards.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, families and caregivers for appropriate services and resources.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written assessments, treatment and discharge reports.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of a professional social worker.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required (i.e. RAI).
  • Participate in the teaching, education and supervision of Social Work students.
  • Participate in Social Work Peer Consultation meetings.
  • Keep current of hospital policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Keep up to date regarding professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending education events, networking with colleagues, etc.
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment, & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
 Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Social Work is required.
  • Minimum 2 years within the last 5 years of clinical Social Work, experience in Forensic Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Registration and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Adheres to a Person Centred approach.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (e.g. MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
  • Ability to manage and determine priorities with a diverse case load.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • High level of knowledge, skill and confidence in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
  • Experience with presentation, training, and group facilitation.
  • Advanced crisis intervention skills based on application of formal risk and clinical assessment.
  • Knowledge and experience in Illness Management and Recovery Model is preferred.
  • Conflict resolution knowledge related to addressing behaviour issues with forensic clients.
  • Understanding of the treatment and management of clients with a concurrent disorder (major mental illness and substance abuse).
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
