Job Description

Liquid Personnel is recruiting Social Worker for its client's Duty and Assessment Team at Wolverhampton.

Are you a sharp, decisive social worker who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Our client is looking for an experienced Duty and Assessment Social Worker to join a dynamic, well-resourced frontline team within a Northeast local authority.

If you love the buzz of initial investigations, hitting the ground running with new families, and holding a short-term, high-impact caseload rather than long-term care planning, this is the perfect role for you.

What will your responsibilities be?

As the first point of statutory contact for families, you will be responsible for managing initial referrals, assessing immediate risk, and determining the most appropriate pathways for children in need of protection or support.

Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Responding to new contacts and referrals, executing swift risk screenings, and leading timely Section 47 child protection investigations.
  • Conducting comprehensive Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) assessments within statutory timescales.
  • Working closely with the MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub), police, schools, and health professionals to gather information and ensure immediate safety.
  • Making clear, evidence-based recommendations for case closures, step-downs to early help, or transfers to longer-term safeguarding teams.

Benefits:

Duty and assessment demand high energy, and this authority matches that commitment with an excellent support structure and financial reward.

  • Financial Package: A base salary of £45,000 plus a £2,500 market supplement.
  • Clear Boundaries: A structured "duty rota" system that ensures down-time to finish assessments and write up reports without being constantly on the front line.
  • Accessible Management: On-the-spot, accessible management support for instant case progression decisions when risk escalates.
  • Agile Working: A hybrid model that allows you to manage your desk time flexibly between home and office around your visits.
  • Benefits: Highly competitive local government pension, generous annual leave, and dedicated administrative support to minimize time spent on data entry.

Qualifications & Experience:

To be successful in this role you must have,

We need a practitioner with excellent crisis-management skills, strong professional boundaries, and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.

  • Qualifications: A recognized Social Work degree and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Proven post-qualified experience working within a fast-paced Duty and Assessment or Front Door team.
  • Skills: Exceptional skills in rapid risk identification, analytical report writing, and the ability to build quick, effective rapport with families during times of crisis.
  • Compliance: Full UK driving license with access to a vehicle, and a valid enhanced DBS check.
