About us

Consumer Credit Legal Service (CCLS) is a specialist not-for-profit community legal centre delivering free legal assistance in credit, debt and consumer law across Western Australia. We combine frontline legal help with education and advocacy to drive fairer financial systems.

We:

• Provide free, confidential legal advice on credit, debt and consumer law.
• Represent vulnerable consumers in dispute resolution processes.
• Deliver a statewide Telephone Advice Line, targeted casework and community legal education.
• Work alongside community and sector partners, including financial counselling and family violence services.
• Advocate for systemic change and stronger consumer protections.

The Role

We’re recruiting a Social Worker for a 12-month contract within our Financial Abuse Legal Service (FALS) program, providing case management support to women victims and survivors experiencing financial abuse from a current or previous intimate partner.

You will work as part of a small, integrated team of solicitors and support staff, providing non-legal support that increases clients' safety and wellbeing and builds their financial independence.

You will

• Provide trauma-informed case management, including assessment, referral, safety planning and advocacy with services.
• Assist clients to obtain documents and personal information about their financial position and liabilities.
• Refer clients to a wide range of support services statewide, such as housing, family violence and mental health services, and build their capacity for long-term empowerment and financial independence.
• Contribute to systemic advocacy, policy and law reform, including community education, submissions and participation in CCLS' broader reform initiatives.
• Help establish and maintain social work processes and systems for the FALS program and contribute to a culturally safe service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and other groups experiencing systemic marginalisation.

You Will Bring

Essential

• Professional qualifications in social work or other directly relevant qualifications.
• Professional registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or equivalent.
• Minimum three years' experience providing case management in a relevant sector or workplace.
• Experience working with victims and survivors of family and domestic violence, including risk and needs assessment, safety planning, crisis support, case management, advocacy and referrals.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to engage with people experiencing vulnerability, support services, government and industry bodies.
• High level of literacy, including advanced word processing skills and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

• Experience working with clients on legal matters involving family law, consumer law, debt, or in courts and tribunals.
• Experience working with First Nations communities and culturally and linguistically diverse clients, and a commitment to culturally safe practice.
• Familiarity with the Australian Consumer Law and the consumer credit regulatory environment.
• Ability to identify systemic barriers, and interest in working towards systemic change in legislation and policy.

Practitioners with experience in financial abuse, coercive control in financial matters, or working alongside financial counselling and family violence services are particularly encouraged to apply.
