Summary

Under general supervision, the Social Services Review Specialist will perform work conducting child welfare and social service reviews to evaluate outcomes within the social services system. They act as liaisons to facilitate problem resolution and are an essential part of continuous quality improvement through evaluating the quality of services provided, identifying strengths and needs of the social services system, and developing and implementing strategies for improvement. They are responsible for conducting Child and Family Services Reviews for the Federal Government, implementing improvement plans, and monitoring the plans for completion at the district, regional and state levels. These positions review critical incidents involving children and compile information into a Legislative report. They also conduct reviews for other continuous quality improvement processes within the Bureau for Social Services.

Applicants must possess a valid WV driver’s license and reliable transportation, as frequent statewide travel is required. Applicants also must have strong communication skills, both oral and written, and maintain detailed records and extensive documentation. Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.

Preference will be given to candidates who have child welfare experience.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Three (3) years full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in an area related to social work, social services, or child welfare.

Experience Substitution:

Additional education may substitute based on a year-for-year basis or as determined by the Office of Shared Administration Equivalency Chart.

Internal Applicants Only:

Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in Bureau for Social Services’ Field Operations or Field Support positions may substitute for the required experience.

Special Requirement:

Valid driver’s license.

Note: Applicants hired into this classification must obtain licensure as a Social Worker from the West Virginia Board of Social Work within a timeframe established by the appointing agency. Until licensure is obtained, they may not perform duties that require a licensed social worker under state law or Board regulation
