Basic Purpose
Positions in this classification are assigned responsibilities involving the direction or supervision of the Social Services Program for an Oklahoma Veterans Center having responsibility for the program area and will perform all essential functions related to the position.
Typical Functions
The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following:
Level Descriptor
Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others.
This is the leadership level where employees provide direct supervision to lower level staff. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing a social work department or an entire social work program in a state facility or may serve as a clinical supervisor in a mental health facility.
Employees assigned to this level will supervise a staff of professional and paraprofessional social service specialists who provide a wide variety of case work and social services to clients and patients, as well as provide consultation and assistance to persons in other professional fields. Some employees direct comprehensive programs of social services and consultation in a number of treatment settings providing a wide variety of casework and social services to clients and patients; confer with medical staff and department heads on professional problems and assignment of work.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required include knowledge of principles and practices of social work: of current social and health problems; of the principles of family health and psychosocial aspects of human relations; of community, state and national health and welfare resources; of psychosocial terminology; of the principles of interviewing; of social assistance requirements; and of psychosocial treatment techniques. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and choosing an appropriate course of action; to make decisions; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience requirements consists of a bachelor’s degree from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (Note: A master’s degree social worker with experience in long-term care is preferred), and a current social work license from the State of Oklahoma Licensed Social Workers Board, and a minimum of three years of supervised social work experience in a health care setting working directly with individuals, plus at least two years of professional supervisory, managerial, consultative or administrative experience in social services or guidance/counseling services.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
Current Oklahoma licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
