BASIC PURPOSE

The Social Service Ministry Worker is responsible for ensuring delivery of services and responding to inquiries from social service clients and the community within the geographic boundaries of Solano County. The position will assist with basic services and offer spiritual care for those in need. Most of these activities will be conducted daily with emergency call up availability for disasters and other similar emergency situations. The position will be involved in the operations of volunteer recruitment in partnership with local community organizations as needed. The position will support the execution of The Salvation Army seasonal programs, such as holiday and back-to-school shopping as directed by the supervisor. The execution of services shall be in a manner consistent with the traditional ethics, methods, and purpose of The Salvation Army.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Execution of daily social services programs in accordance with the welfare assistance guidelines as established by the Corps Officer.
  2. Always represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner.
  3. Oversee and operate the emergency food pantry with support from volunteers to extend program services to clients.
  4. Oversee and manage food inventories as delivered on site and maintain available inventory for clients. Rotate inventory to minimize spoilage.
  5. Expand other services and programs that meet the needs of the community.
  6. Develop Church, community, and referrals.
  7. Actively engage in volunteer recruitment to build volunteer support.
  8. Direct clients to appropriate crisis counseling and intervention.
  9. Ensure all client and statistical records are complete and maintained in a confidential file retrieval system.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
  11. Accurately record hours worked daily.
  12. Maintain volunteer and office records in compliance with Salvation Army procedures.
  13. Drive for donation pick ups with box truck and lift gate as needed.
  14. Comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures
  15. Participate in all required training.
  16. Ensure safe operation of all equipment and maintain cleanliness of all Salvation Army owned property and equipment.
  17. Immediately report any needed repairs or replacements to the supervisor.
  18. Must be able to travel and assist at any of TSA offices within Solano County.
  19. Able to support with special events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  2. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  3. Possess excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills.
  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain poise under pressure and thrive in a team environment.
  5. Capability to determine client needs while maintaining client’s dignity.
  6. Awareness of food handling standards.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  2. Must be 21 years or older.
  3. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.
  4. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Frequent lifting of 50 pounds from floor to table or shelf height.
  2. Good mobility to bend and dexterity to grasp, and reach.
  3. Ability to stand for up to three hours during work activities or sit for up to 30 minutes without standing during office/ clerical activities.
