The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDF’s mission has been transformative — to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

LDF’s litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education programs in the substantive areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education, and political participation seek to ensure the fundamental and basic human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote and fully participate in democracy, and the right to a fair and just judicial system. The Social Media Strategist will implement tactics and lead the strategic vision for social and digital media across all platforms for LDF and the Thurgood Marshall Institute (TMI). The role develops and executes content strategies that grow audience engagement, strengthen brand visibility, and support organizational priorities. Working closely with communications, program, and legal teams, the Strategist ensures messaging is timely, coordinated, and aligned across channels. This position also analyzes performance metrics and emerging trends to continuously refine strategy and maximize impact.

LDF operates in a hybrid work environment where employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of two days per week, unless otherwise indicated.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Director to develop and implement digital and social media engagement strategies. Maintain LDF’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) and ensure that information is posted regularly, correctly in a way that is user-friendly and engaging.
• Create consistent and meaningful content as part of various social media plans. Develop platform-specific social media strategies. Plan, manage, and execute LDF and the TMI’s social media strategy across all platforms.
• Grow LDF and TMI’s presence and content creatively across all social media channels on a day-to-day basis, including, but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Analyze trends and respond to breaking news by conceptualizing and creating content to amplify LDF and TMI’s messages online.
• Track, report, and interpret data analytics monthly and provide informed recommendations for new strategies and tactics to promote LDF and educate the public. Monitor social media for coverage of issues affecting LDF and TMI and craft appropriate messaging. Engage in active social listening and engagement with LDF’s digital audiences. Monitor developments in social tools, applications, channels, design and strategy, and provide recommendations to increase effective engagement.
• Work with cross-organizational teams and national coalition partners to develop joint strategies for social media campaigns. Maintain relationships with social media and digital campaign staff of coalition partners. Conduct regular audits of LDF’s social media to inform strategic planning and short- and long-range goals
• Other duties as assigned within the general scope of the position.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of direct experience
• Highly motivated and reliable with exceptionally professional demeanor and excellent judgment regarding confidentiality, sensitive information, and discretion;
• Commitment to civil rights and racial justice mission of LDF;
• Understanding and appreciation of LDF’s standing as a historic, legacy organization;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Fluency in MS Office suite of products, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat and other commonly used software;
• Ability to present dense and complex information in easily digestible format;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, community members, and external partners;
• Excellent attention to detail, including advanced proofreading and editing skills;
• Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a high-paced environment;
• Proactive problem solver when faced with challenging circumstances;
• Flexibility with work schedule to meet the demands of a dynamic legal organization;
• Team player who can also work independently;

The salary range for this position is:

New York: $70,400 - $96,800

Washington, D.C.: $67,200 - $92,400
