He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for a Social Media Specialist within their Brand and Channel team. In this role you will be responsible for end-to-end social content creation from planning to scheduling across all our social channels including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

You will bring Auckland's parks, libraries, pools, cycleways, and community spaces to life telling the stories behind growth projects, environmental protection, arts, culture, and events.

What you will be doing:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop engaging social strategies and content plans.
  • Identify emerging trends and new opportunities to stay ahead of the algorithm.
  • Use insights to continuously optimise content and audience engagement.
  • Plan, script, film and edit short form video that is native to the platform.
  • Write social copy that reflects our tone of voice and connects with Aucklanders.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on integrated and paid advertising strategies.

We are looking for a Social Media Specialist that is passionate about storytelling, has strong stakeholder management skills, is adaptable, resourceful, solutions focused, creative and pragmatic. Alongside managing multiple projects with great attention to detail, the role will require you to have:

  • 3- 5 years’ experience working in a social media role for a large complex organisation.
  • Proficiency in video content creation and editing tools (e.g., Premiere Pro, Capcut or similar).
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Experience contributing to integrated campaigns across organic, paid, and/or influencer channels.
  • Strong copy writing skills and a basic understanding of Te Reo.
  • Is self-motivated, proactive and can demonstrate strong initiative.
