The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
Position title: Social Media Coordinator
Reports to: Marketing Specialist and Content Coordinator, AMS Marcom
Employee status: Full time, hourly, temporary
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week
Compensation: $21.17 per hour
Length of term: June 15, 2026 – August 31, 2026
The Alma Mater Society (AMS) of UBC Vancouver is looking for a student who is interested in gaining marketing and communications experience in the position of Social Media Coordinator. This is a 30 hour a week position, running between June 15, 2026 and August 31, 2026.
The Social Media Coordinator works cross-functionally across the AMS to brainstorm, create, and edit content that supports the organization’s communication goals. The ideal candidate is confident, respectful, fun, passionate about media, and brings great ideas and thinking to the position every day.
By planning, creating, and executing content that’s engaging and meaningful, the Social Media Coordinator plays a huge part in helping the AMS tell its story.
Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to bringing a passion for digital storytelling and your understanding of student life to the role, you will:
• Participate in weekly planning meetings
• Pitch stories, prepare scripts and production plans
• Write, design, and proofread content for publication
• Upload and edit content on the AMS’ social media channels
• Create clear, relatable, and authentic communications for the intended audience
• Directly engage with students and staff to create first-person style content
Qualifications
• Must be a currently registered post-secondary student
• You have experience in digital marketing, film production, and social media
• You think creatively and always looking for ways to apply your ideas to your work
• You can take initiative and work independently while also working as part of a team
• You can research, project plan, and pitch new ideas
• You can follow directions and respond well to feedback, particularly editorial feedback on pieces you’ve developed
• Experience with video equipment and software and video production
• Experience with photography would be an asset.
