Travel Percentage: NoneThe Social Media Content Specialist is responsible for creating, capturing, and publishing engaging social media content that brings the Museum's mission, exhibitions, programs, and experiences to life across digital platforms.
This position serves as the Museum's primary content creator for social channels, producing compelling photography, video, graphics, and written content that builds audience engagement and strengthens community connections. The Social Media Content Specialist translates Museum experiences into platform-specific content that informs, entertains, and inspires.

Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Production
- Create and publish engaging social media content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other emerging platforms.
- Produce photography, videography, graphics, and written content optimized for each platform.
- Capture content during exhibitions, programs, events, educational activities, and behind-the-scenes experiences.
- Edit photos and videos for social media distribution using industry-standard tools and best practices.
Social Media Management
- Execute and maintain the Museum's social media content calendar.
- Schedule and publish content across social platforms.
- Monitor social channels and ensure timely posting and content updates.
- Stay informed on platform updates, emerging trends, and best practices.
Community Engagement
- Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and user-generated content.
- Engage with followers in a timely, professional, and brand-aligned manner.
- Foster positive online community engagement and audience interaction.
Event Coverage
- Provide live and real-time social media coverage of exhibitions, programs, special events, and community initiatives.
- Coordinate content capture opportunities with Museum staff and stakeholders.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track social media performance metrics, audience growth, and engagement trends.
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to improve content performance.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Partner with learning staff, curators, scientists, membership staff, and event teams to identify and capture compelling content opportunities.
- Support broader communications initiatives through social amplification of campaigns, exhibitions, programs, and organizational announcements.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
- 2-4  years of professional experience in social media management.
- Equivalent professional experience in social media content creation or multimedia production may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Core Competencies
- Proven experience as a social media content creator, preferably in the arts, culture, education, or science sectors.
- Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in multimedia content production, including videography, photography, graphic design, and editing for social media.
- Exceptional storytelling skills with the ability to tailor narratives for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator) or other relevant software.
- Deep understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, trends, and best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with social media analytics.
- Ability to attend Museum functions in the evenings and weekends.
Preferred Skills
- A passion for science and education.
- Previous museum or nonprofit experience.
- Additional certifications in social media marketing, digital content creation, or related fields.
Essential Functions
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required regularly to:
- Sit for extended periods of time while utilizing resource materials such as a computer and detailed spreadsheets.
- Communicate by telephone; email other appropriate Perot Museum communication platforms (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will occasionally be required to:
- Lift and/or move light boxes and other materials of 20 lbs. or less.
