Job Description
SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMUNITY COORDINATOR
An opportunity to run the channels where JMC Academy's story is told every day and to build the student-powered content engine behind them. JMC is moving into its fifth decade with a refreshed brand identity, and its social channels are where that brand meets prospective students first: authentic, student-led content consistently outperforms polished brand work in reach, engagement and conversion.
This role owns the day-to-day operation of JMC's social media ecosystem and online community, and operates the newly expanded Social Media Ambassador Programme, a paid cohort of trained student creators across Sydney and Brisbane, with Melbourne content captured directly by this role. You will turn campus life at three campuses full of musicians, filmmakers, animators, game designers and actors into a consistent, distinctive content pipeline that feeds organic channels, paid campaigns and the wider brand.

YOUR ROLE, HONESTLY
The Social Media & Community Coordinator is a hands-on channel role within JMC’s Customer function, reporting to the Head of Brand & Campaigns.
This position is the primary owner of day-to-day social media and community engagement across JMC’s channels, planning and publishing the social content calendar, leading organic social and community narratives, and building a thriving online community of prospective students, current students, alumni and creative audiences. It is also the operational owner of the Social Media Ambassador Programme: recruiting, training, rostering and managing JMC’s paid student content creators within the parameters, budget and brand framework approved by the Head of Brand & Campaigns and CCSO.
Social media and content strategy, brand governance and final approval of major campaigns and key assets sit with the Head of Brand & Campaigns. Within that approved strategy, this role plans and executes channel activity, approves day-to-day ambassador and organic content within delegated authority, and escalates higher-risk, high-visibility or paid/print reuse content for approval. The role collaborates closely with the Marketing Coordinator on campaign integration, the Designer on visual assets, and the Copywriter on messaging and tone.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
SOCIAL CHANNEL MANAGEMENT & PUBLISHING
- Manage JMC’s social media ecosystem across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and emerging channels), keeping each channel active, on brand and suited to its audience
- Plan and manage the social content calendar within the campaign strategy and priorities set by the Head of Brand & Campaigns, integrating campaign moments, events and intake periods shared by the Marketing Coordinator
- Create, schedule and publish engaging organic content in alignment with brand tone, campaign plans and audience insights
- Develop channel-specific plans and content formats within approved strategy, recommending new platforms, formats and creative approaches to the Head of Brand & Campaigns
- Support paid social activity by supplying content, creative input and platform knowledge to campaigns run with JMC’s digital marketing agency, within parameters approved by the Head of Brand & Campaigns
CONTENT CREATION & COLLABORATION
- Capture and produce social-native content — filming, editing and publishing — including direct coverage of the Melbourne campus and its events
- Brief the Designer on social visuals, templates and paid social creative requirements, and the Copywriter on social copy, scripts and captions — collaborating on messaging, tone and narrative
- Coordinate content production such as photo and video shoots, day-in-the-life reels and event coverage that captures JMC’s creative culture across all three campuses
- Partner with campus teams, academic departments and student services to surface authentic stories, and support collaborations with external creative brands that build JMC’s positioning, with partnership approvals resting with the Head of Brand & Campaigns
COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT & ENGAGEMENT
- Act as the day-to-day voice of JMC online — responding to messages, comments and queries with professionalism and warmth, within brand tone and escalation guidelines set by the Head of Brand & Campaigns
- Build and nurture JMC’s online community across prospective students, current students, alumni and creative audiences
- Facilitate and moderate community spaces (such as Discord and Reddit), growing positive share of voice
- Coordinate with internal teams so community questions receive timely, accurate responses, and escalate sensitive, reputational or crisis-related matters to the Head of Brand & Campaigns immediately
SOCIAL MEDIA AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME
- Recruit and select Social Media Ambassadors, primarily from the existing Student Ambassador pool in coordination with the Outreach team, applying the programme’s selection criteria and managing vetting and trials for candidates from the wider student body where needed
- Design and deliver ambassador onboarding and ongoing training — brand guidelines, tone of voice, content standards, capture techniques, platform workflows, and briefing and approval processes
- Set and manage fortnightly schedules, content briefs and event rosters across Sydney and Brisbane, coordinating ambassador coverage of Open Days, recitals, ensembles, graduations and campus activations with the Marketing Coordinator and Events team
- Brief ambassadors clearly for shoots, events and campaigns — objectives, shot lists, usage intentions, brand and style requirements, timings and on-campus contacts — based on campaign plans approved by the Head of Brand & Campaigns
- Quality-check, edit and approve ambassador content for organic social within delegated authority, and route content intended for paid media, print or website reuse — and any high-visibility or higher-risk content — to the Head of Brand & Campaigns for approval
- Ensure all ambassador content is captured with correct talent releases, licensing and usage rights so JMC can reuse it across channels, escalating any gaps before publication
- Approve additional ambassador hours for events within the approved budget, reallocating fortnightly hours where possible, and track programme hours and spend, flagging variances to the Head of Brand & Campaigns
- Monitor ambassador content performance and provide regular feedback, coaching and recognition — supporting portfolio development and meaningful paid experience that deepens student engagement with the brand — and manage cohort refresh as ambassadors graduate or complete their tenure
CONTENT RIGHTS, LICENSING & CONTENT BANK
- Curate ambassador, UGC and social content into the team’s content bank and digital asset library with accurate usage rights, talent releases and campus tagging, so content is discoverable for social, campaign, web and collateral workflows
- Work with the Marketing Coordinator and Head of Brand & Campaigns to address licensing and reuse gaps in photography and content sourced across campuses, ensuring capture is arranged through the programme and marketing workflows rather than informally
- Maintain a consistent, current content pipeline across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne so every campus is represented authentically in organic and paid activity
INSIGHTS, REPORTING & INNOVATION
- Track channel and ambassador content performance and prepare regular reports on engagement, reach, growth and sentiment, feeding into the team’s campaign reporting compiled by the Marketing Coordinator
- Analyse social trends and cultural moments to inform content opportunities, and share audience insights that support campaign development
- Identify platform innovations and recommend new formats, tools or creative strategies to the Head of Brand & Campaigns to keep JMC at the forefront of digital engagement
