Job Description

Brief Summary of role:

Katherine Sobering Up Shelter is an 18bed shelter operating 4 nights per week, week provides overnight accommodation to those under the influence of alcohol or other drugs who have been externally or self-referred.

To provide day, afternoon and overnight support to people affected by alcohol in a safe, 18 bed sobering up shelter until the effects of their alcohol use has reduced.

The support worker is responsible for the ongoing support and safety of clients at the centre. This will involve clear, compassionate communication with clients and management, active participation in personal support and domestic duties, administrative tasks and stakeholder engagement.

The support workers should continue the provision of a culturally appropriate service to all clients.

Salary and Conditions:

Employment Type: Casual

Salary Range: $26.6938 - $33.91 (plus casual loading & other applicable allowances)

Hours of work: Shifts: Tuesday to Friday | 4pm – 12:00am | 12:00am – 8:00am

Location: Sobering Up Shelter, Katherine NT

Selection Criteria

• Experience working with Indigenous people and understanding of the barriers and challenges that Indigenous people face in the NT

• Certificate in Alcohol & Other Drugs or willingness to obtain

• Competent knowledge of computer software and systems (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, staff and stakeholders

• Sound knowledge of work, health and safety principles and practices and mandatory reporting protocols

• Current NT drivers' license, valid Ochre Card and willingness to undertake a National Police check.
