Snr Treasury Accountant

Position Purpose

To coordinate and supervise the full spectrum of Treasury Financial Accounting and Reporting and deliver accurate and timely treasury financial, reporting and management information to support appropriate strategic decision making whilst maintaining strong financial governance, effective internal controls, enabling systems, policies, procedures and business processes with a view to achieving clean audits.

Position Outputs

  • The individual should be prepared to address issues wider than the Treasury Operations portfolio in order to support the Transnet Reinvent for Growth (R4G) strategy.
  • Provide an effective Treasury enabling environment that entails: - Effective treasury systems, - Effective policy framework and - Standard Operating procedures within established professional frameworks.
  • Coordinate and supervise the entire aspects of Treasury Financial accounting and reporting.
  • Coordinate and supervise both the internal and external audit processes.
  • Manage the delivery of high quality and value adding reporting to Treasury Management including but not limited to ALCO, Hedge Accounting Committee & other Governance structures.
  • Coordinate and deliver timeous finance cost (CAPEX) budget – Input for the Corporate plan.
  • Maintain and enhance the internal controls, including, but not limited to Critical-Financial and Reporting Controls (CFRCs), Business Critical Controls (BCCs), Control-Self-Assurance (CSAs) and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate, supervise and sign off on accounting journals for derivatives, money market and capital market instruments.
  • Coordinate and ensure effective processes to deliver accurate and timeous month-end accounting, including accruals, market values, Hedge accounting, Journal entries etc.
  • Coordinate, supervise and sign off on accurate financial packs including tax, IFRS7 disclosures and notes to Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
  • Coordinate and sign off on intergroup transactions.
  • Assist the Senior Manager Treasury Accounting in managing the system implementations.
  • Assist the Senior Manager Treasury Accounting with the IT Governance by maintenance of an effective system environment including servers, hardware, software, ITGC’s and IT Support and CFRC’s.
  • Ensure full compliance to IFRS accounting standards & other applicable regulations.
  • Provide accurate tax treatment and tax packs.
  • Review and sign off on SARB submissions.
  • Manage, maintain and enhance the accuracy of hedge accounting information & processes in compliance with IFRS9.
  • Review and ensure that Treasury tax related matters are compliant, accurate, complete and timeous.
  • Approve payments where applicable per delegated authority/ Mandate.
  • Manage and supervise staff, including development & training of others in Treasury Operations.
  • Coordinates and manage audits, including interim and financial year-end processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.Com (Hons) • CA(SA) is required
  • At least 8 years of specialised Treasury Accounting experience with at least 2 years at management/senior management
  • Strong risk management background, particularly Treasury Controls
  • Solid reporting experience
  • Experience on implementation of Treasury systems, General Ledger, and Treasury Audit are an advantage.

Competencies

  • Financial and Accounting Management • Treasury business processes • Solid knowledge of financial markets instruments • Practical knowledge of the mechanics of financial markets & instruments • Understanding of all applicable accounting standards (IAS and IFRS).
