Position Purpose
• To assist in the implementation of the Company's taxation strategy in respect of direct and indirect tax so as to ensure that TRIM complies fully with taxation requirements and legislation.
• To support the Transnet Group Tax team in the delivery of their responsibility as regards to the management of Transnet Group’s tax affairs.
• To identify tax planning risks relevant to TRIM, manage those risks and ensure compliance with local regulations.
• To provide strategic leadership and management oversight on all aspects of the TRIM tax function for both direct and indirect taxes.
• To coordinate and ensure that all taxation guidelines, processes and procedures for both direct and indirect taxes are in place.
• To ensure that TRIM complies fully with the taxation requirements and all relevant legislation
Position Outputs
• Perform reviews and spot checks on business processes and practices to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation. Where necessary, recommend changes.
• Ensure that Transnet taxation guidelines, processes and procedures are updated with any changes in tax legislation and that these updates are properly communicated to the business.
• Ensure that the Transnet Group Tax strategies and directives are applied consistently at the Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager tax division
• Identify and manage tax risks (income tax, vat, customs duty and ad hoc projects) within Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager to ensure compliance with the tax legislation.
• Ensure that internal controls are properly and consistently implemented. Monitor non-compliance to ensure that the appropriate process was used, exceptions are followed up and appropriate corrective action taken.
• Research, develop, and implement tax planning strategies, including new business initiatives. Research tax issues and provide relevant tax advice to the business.
• Research and provide tax advice on the business cases and contracts that are presented on the capital investment committee.
• Lead and manage the staff within the Taxation department so that they meet the objectives of their roles and obtain the necessary guidance and development. Ensure that staff performance is evaluated on a regular basis and that training targets are met.
Qualifications and Experience
• BCom (Hons) Accounting or Financial Management and a Postgraduate degree/diploma in Taxation
• CA(SA) would be added advantage
• A minimum of 8 years' experience in Tax environment with at least 5 years at management level
• Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment
• Must undergo Lifestyle Audit
