Job Description

The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University seeks one full-time Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach counseling courses and utilize generalist teaching skills for core counseling curriculum, which includes culturally sustaining content and strategies across the foundational curriculum, in keeping with CACREP standards.
  • Academic (individual and group) advising.
  • Curriculum development and/or oversight.
  • Provide clinical supervision of students as needed related to clinical courses.
  • Support departmental program projects and events.
  • Provide service to the School and University.

This is a renewable, non-tenured position with an initial three-year appointment beginning August 2027.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • A doctoral degree in counseling or counselor education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • A doctoral degree in a related field and previous employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of 1 full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • Teaching experience in counseling-related courses, including clinical courses and counseling core curriculum.
  • Demonstrated identity as a counselor educator and clinician as evidenced by sustained participation in professional activities, scholarly activities, and service to the profession.
  • Clinical experience in the field and clinical supervisory experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • LPC licensure
  • LMFT licensure
  • Marriage, couple, and family counseling experience
  • One to three years teaching experience
