SMT AOI Inspector

The SMT AOI Inspector is responsible for operating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to inspect surface mount assemblies and ensure compliance with quality standards. This role supports production by identifying defects, verifying workmanship, and helping maintain high product reliability.

Facility in Tulsa, OK manufactures state-of-the-art circuit boards for the
Department of Defense (DoD). Our team specializes in high-reliability
electronics, producing complex printed circuit boards and assemblies used in
mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. With a strong focus on
quality, precision, and compliance with rigorous industry standards, the Tulsa
site plays a vital role in delivering innovative solutions that support
national security and advanced technology initiatives.

  • Operate AOI equipment to inspect printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs)
  • Review and verify AOI inspection results, including false calls and confirmed defects
  • Identify defects such as missing components, misalignment, polarity issues, and solder defects
  • Perform manual inspection when required to validate AOI findings
  • Escalate quality concerns and trends to Quality and Engineering teams
  • Make minor program adjustments or optimize inspection parameters (as trained)
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate records
  • Ensure compliance with work instructions, IPC standards, and quality procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of inspection area

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify small defects
  • Basic understanding of electronic components and PCB assemblies
  • Ability to read work instructions, diagrams, and assembly drawings
  • Good computer skills for operating AOI systems and logging data
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quality judgments
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in SMT manufacturing, inspection, or electronics assembly preferred
  • Experience with AOI equipment (e.g., Koh Young, etc.) is a plus

Licenses, Certifications, etc.

  • IPC-A-610 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain - paid training provided)
  • J-STD-001 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain - paid training provided)

This is a generic job posting for a SMT AOI Operator. Depending on the candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level, intermediate (II) level or expert (III) level job and pay scale.
