In this role, you'll:

Reporting to the Director, Commercial & Controls, the Senior Manager, Commercial leads the commercial function across a portfolio of road and related active transport infrastructure projects ranging from Tier1 to Tier5. The role has end to end accountability for commercial performance across both the development and delivery phases, ensuring commercial strategies, contract management, and risk management are integrated and effectively applied throughout the project lifecycle. It oversees the development and implementation of contract administration manuals to strengthen compliance, improve decision-making and risk management practices,

This position provides leadership across multiple projects and locations, guiding and supporting commercial teams to deliver consistent outcomes. A key focus is building commercial capability, and upskilling teams to strengthen commercial acumen, judgement, and performance across projects of varying size and complexity

Key responsibilities include leading contract negotiations, procurement and delivery strategy workshops, dispute prevention and resolution, and providing expert commercial advice on tenders, variations, claims, and pricing structures.

With a strong judgement, a proactive risk management mindset the Senior Manager, Commercial operates with a high level of autonomy, embedding proactive risk management into day to day commercial decision making, ensuring risks are identified early and managed effectively to support successful project outcomes. The role works closely with project directors, engineers, delivery teams, and external stakeholders to collaborate, influence outcomes, and drive strong commercial performance.

This is a hybrid role, requiring a combination of office based work and regular presence on project sites across Sydney and Regional NSW to support teams, engage stakeholders, and maintain strong connection to project delivery.

About you

You will drive and embed a strong risk identification and mitigation mindset to achieve commercial outcomes that support the successful delivery of projects, programs, and portfolios. You will take a solutions-focused approach to resolving issues and enabling value-for-money decision making, often in circumstances where there is limited or no precedent. You will maintain awareness of political sensitivities, emerging risks, and matters that may attract media or community attention, ensuring these are appropriately escalated and communicated to management in a timely manner.

You will work collaboratively and proactively across the organisation, interfacing with business units and branches to build strong working relationships and effective partnerships, while supporting a fair and competitive environment for contractors. You will operate with a variable number of direct and indirect reports depending on business and project requirements, working with a high level of autonomy within an agreed work plan. You will exercise sound judgement in applying policy and will be fully accountable for the quality and integrity of the advice you provide.

You will make independent decisions that influence team and area outcomes, including resolving day-to-day issues that impact priorities and delivery performance. For more complex matters that have significant implications for time, cost, quality, and scope, you will work collaboratively with your reporting line manager to ensure decisions are well-informed, balanced, and commercially sound.
