Job Description

The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating the slitting line safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, customer requirements, and product specifications. This role ensures accurate machine setup, maintains high levels of quality and productivity, and provides direction to the slitter line team to support safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the slitting line in a safe and efficient manner while following all applicable operating procedures and safety standards.
  • Verify that the proper knives, rubbers, and tooling are selected and installed according to material specifications, commodity type, and gauge requirements.
  • Adjust tables, conveyors, and rollers to ensure steel coils are properly aligned and positioned for processing.
  • Monitor machine performance throughout the production process to ensure accuracy of cuts, proper coil drop, and optimal machine speed.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Slitter Helpers regarding process monitoring, banding of finished coils, and material offloading activities.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure finished products meet customer and company specifications.
  • Complete production records, traveler documentation, and productivity reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and communicate concerns to leadership as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Quality, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, document, and report non-conformities related to products, processes, and quality systems.
  • Participate in corrective and preventive action processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure that non-conforming products are properly identified and prevented from further processing or shipment until issues are resolved.
  • Maintain compliance with all quality, environmental, health and safety, and company policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe work environment through adherence to safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain work areas in accordance with 5S housekeeping standards.
  • Support a culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain reliable transportation and flexibility to work all shifts as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of slitting line or related manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of slitting operations, equipment setup, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, production documents, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

*This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, and nights.

The base pay for this position is $37.21/hour (CAD). This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive plan. Incentive awards, if any, are based on business and individual performance and are not guaranteed.
