Slide Attendant- Summer

Department: Aquatics

Employment Type: Part Time

Location: Waltham YMCA

Reporting To: Megan Reardon

Compensation: $15.00 / hour


The Slide Attendant is responsible for overseeing the assigned aquatics area to ensure participants are abiding by pool rules promoting safety and satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Provides a sense of control over slide usage by members. The Slide Attendant is stationed at the top of the slide, ensuring participants go down when the lifeguard gives the OK and that they go down safely. This will increase the safety of the slide for all patrons.

Key Responsibilities


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prevention of accidents both in the water and on the slide.
  • Provide emergency assistance in the event of an accident.
  • Maintain a sense of control over the slide usage.
  • Enforce pool rules and justly establish disciplinary actions.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training, as required.
  • Maintain a neat and well groomed personal appearance
  • Wear staff uniform and when on duty and appropriate.
  • Customer service. Be friendly and able to answer general facility questions.
  • Work your scheduled times or find your own qualified substitute.
  • Fill out accident reports for any accident no matter how minor.
  • Other duties and/or responsibilities, as directed by management

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Work Conditions

  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.
  • May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment.
  • Work environment is outdoors in the sun for the duration of the shift (with appropriate breaks), applicants must be prepared to be outside for 45 minute periods.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Observe all areas of the pool with clear vision.
  • Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time
