A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the clinical director (MD, DO, or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff. ​

General Requirements:

  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. ​

Education Requirements:

  • 2 year / Associate’s Degree in Polysomnographic or related field of study.(Required)

Experience Requirements:

  • 1 - 2 years direct patient care experience as it relates to polysomnography and/or respiratory therapy. (Required)

Certifications and Licensures:

  • Required: CPR and one of the following:
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT)
  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
