The S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer will provide shore based marine utility systems and Storage and Loading technical support to Shell Australia offshore operating assets and also to the projects and non-operated ventures.

The position is a JG 5 position, with direct reporting line to the Lead S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer, and indirect reporting lines to the Materials, Mechanical, Marine and Inspection Team Lead (for day-to-day matters).

The primary function of the S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer is to provide technical support and assurance for marine utility equipment operation and maintenance within their assigned production areas on Prelude.

Based on proven expertise & experience gained from operation, maintenance, engineering design and constructions of similar facilities you will be able to support operability, integrity and reliability business targets, particularly in support of Prelude FLNG and on occasion, new projects/developments and non-operated Venture (NOV) projects.

As the S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer you will:

  • Be responsible for providing technical support to Classification Society (Lloyds Register) focal within the Maritime Operations team in FLNG / FPSO space.

  • Certification for Prelude, ensuring compliance with the Prelude Safety Case

  • Develop strategies for the resolution of reliability and breakdowns related to offshore marine utility equipment.

  • Operations & Maintenance experience in both an offshore and onshore operating environment.

  • Possess experience dealing with Key marine equipment/hardware OEMs.

  • Facilitate and/or participate in structured analysis processes such as root cause analysis (RCA), 5 causal reasoning questions (CRQ), Bad Actors Elimination, Risk Assessments, and Solution Development.

  • Support the development of sparing strategies for all marine equipment onboard Prelude FLNG.

  • Provide technical support of all marine engineering aspects to ensure compliance to the Safety Case. Experience operating in FLNG / FPSO safety case regime is preferred.

  • Be required to maintain the interface between the onshore Integrated Engineering, Maintenance and Maritime Operations teams along with the offshore services, maintenance, and operations teams.

  • Support execution teams during shutdowns, turnarounds and start-ups and provide subject matter guidance as and where needed.

  • Be acquainted with contracts scopes of work, capabilities, prior performance history for Prelude and within Shell.

  • Identify opportunities for marine equipment improvements that will feed onto the MTO process and steer outcome.

  • Support project development for marine equipment in assigned business team to ensure adherence to applicable standards as well as site standards and practices.

  • Foster a “goal zero” Safety and Environmental performance “mindset” as it relates to rotating equipment systems. Focus and drive LOPC incident reduction and demonstrate a commitment to reduce marine equipment operational and maintenance safety risks.

The incumbent must possess excellent communications skills combined with a broad understanding of Marine / Maritime discipline engineering in an operating environment and be capable of continuously improving existing processes, systems and structures for an organization that continues to mature into the operational phase of Preludes life and potentially for future offshore and coastal assets within Shell Australia.

The role will be based in Perth however may be required to travel offshore, nationally and internationally periodically.

  • Bachelor of Mechanical, Marine, Ocean or Naval Engineering

  • Experienced and well versed in FSR, MTO and MOC processes.

  • Minimum 7 + years of hand on experience in the oil and gas industry.

  • Offshore work planning, preparation and execution.

  • Experience working with HSE management standards and guidelines, contract management and general regulatory regimes including familiarity with Classification schemes.

  • Experience interfacing with regulatory bodies, classification societies, professional bodies, contractors and others global organizations

  • Experience in technical assessment, reporting and gap evaluation.

  • Experience in project management processes and controls.

  • Ability to communicate to leadership in the context of project objectives.

  • Experience in application of project assurance practices and assurance gates and milestones.

  • Experience with Class Requirements (LR etc).

  • Experience in industry standards (API, AWS, NRs, etc.) and international standards (SOLAS, ISO, etc.),

  • Experience with critical management systems like MOCs, PTW, SIMPOS, HAZID, HAZOPs.

  • Knowledge with Risk Assessment Matrix utilization.

  • Solid understanding and proven ability to perform risk assessments and activities prioritization.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver through others and promote team members in your organization.

  • Experience with project completions, (de)commissioning, and critical handover (Projects & Operations) are desirable.
