Job Description

Under the overall direction of the Coordinator of Prevocational Services, the Skills Coach supports people with disabilities in pursuing employment and community involvement goals. Skills Coaches may be cross‑trained to work in Project SEARCH® and/or the UP Next program. This role actively supports the mission, vision, and values of Heritage Christian Services, Inc.

Pay for this position: $20.50 / hr - full time

$19.25 / hr - part time

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above range represents the organization's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Responsibilities

Direct Support & Skill Development

  • Support individuals with a range of disabilities in unpaid work experiences and instructional settings to build independence and transferable employment skills.
  • Use group and individualized teaching techniques to enhance success in work and community settings.
  • Develop and implement meaningful, community‑based experiences as directed by the Coordinator.
  • Facilitate learning and independence related to public transportation, including ACCESS (paratransit), Uber/Lyft, and other transportation options.

Community & Relationship Building

  • Collaborate with individuals receiving services, business partners, mentors, coworkers, and natural supports to build positive and productive relationships.
  • Facilitate partnerships with community employers and businesses to enhance unpaid work experiences.
  • Support a service philosophy focused on self‑direction, community participation, equity and justice, productivity, and full citizenship

Communication, Safety & Documentation

  • Maintain open communication with individuals receiving services and members of their support teams.
  • Identify and implement necessary safeguards to ensure individual health and safety.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of personal information in accordance with HIPAA requirements, including secure documentation storage.

Team Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Attend all required trainings, including potential training with partner agencies through the Project SEARCH® program.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions; implement new procedures as directed.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to meet staffing needs across Project SEARCH and UP Next programs
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability across varied work environments.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required; college coursework preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people with intellectual disabilities to support growth and development
  • Ability to engage with community business professionals to facilitate partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Comfortable using technology for documentation, communication, and instruction
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of work environments and situations

Physical & Transportation Requirements

    • Valid driver’s license meeting Heritage Christian Services’ motor vehicle standards
    • Reliable transportation to and from work
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
    • Ability to stand, walk, and remain mobile for extended periods, both indoors and outdoors, with or without reasonable accommodation
