Job Description
We are looking for a talented Skilled Technician to join our team specializing in specializing in Controls and Automation for our Manufacturing Engineering Department in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
This is a permanent on-site position, working 35 hours per week with flexibility working shifts.
- Day shift: 7:30am - 15:00pm
- Middle shift: Mon - Thurs: 14:30pm - 22:15pm, Friday: 14:00pm - 20:15pm
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to safely perform skilled manufacturing activities that support operational and business objectives.
- Lead by example in Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) practices by identifying hazards, stopping unsafe work, reporting incidents, and promoting a culture of interdependence and accountability.
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship, performing work accurately in line with diagrams, manuals, specifications, and quality procedures.
- Support equipment reliability by contributing to failure analysis, preventive maintenance systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate others as a formal technical resource, providing guidance, knowledge‑sharing, and hands‑on support to team members.
- Increase efficiency and reduce manufacturing constraints by proactively identifying issues, implementing solutions, and improving processes.
- Deliver consistent results by executing and documenting preventive, corrective, emergency, and predictive maintenance while maintaining clean, orderly work areas.
- Strengthen teamwork and capability by communicating effectively, completing required training, and actively participating in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and improvement teams.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Foundational knowledge of control systems, with the ability to assist in the design, development, and implementation under guidance.
- Basic capability in PLC and HMI programming, with a willingness to learn and apply best practices from senior engineers.
- Strong problem‑solving skills to support testing, commissioning, validation, and troubleshoot basic automation and control issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers to develop accurate technical documentation, reports, and system records.
Education/ Experience:
- High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
- Significant work experience and in-depth knowledge obtained through specialized training and relevant experience.
- HNC is desirable - in electrical or mechanical engineering or qualification of similar level – needed
- Basic understanding of control systems theory (e.g., PID control, feedback systems)
- Familiarity with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar)
- Exposure to SCADA or HMI systems is an advantage
- Knowledge of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience with engineering software tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Basic understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP
- Some familiarity with industry standards and safety practices.
- Any exposure to robotics, automation, or motion control technologies.
- Introductory understanding of instrumentation and sensor applications.
