Job Description

Job Title: Ski Patrol Dispatcher I

Reports To: Ski Patrol Director

Rate of Pay: 22.50 - 24.50 DOE

Shift: Day shifts: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Night shifts 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, varies according to weather. Day shifts must be available early mornings for control work as needed.

Seasonal Full-Time available

Summary:

Promote general mountain safety by educating guests on boundaries, hazards, and avalanche mitigation work. Respond to emergencies (medical, search & rescue, weather, etc.), and engaging guests in an informative and pleasant manner. Perform occasional duties on skis.

The Ski Patrol Dispatcher I is responsible for receiving and disseminating information in an efficient manner to facilitate all relevant departments having access to details that will help them perform in their role and provide excellent guest service. Dispatchers monitor radio transmissions, demonstrate an understanding of terrain and operations, remain aware of current conditions and placement of resources across the mountain, assist in facilitating timely incident response, and prepare and maintain accurate records of operations and communications.

The Ski Patrol Dispatcher I will provide primary medical care for guest requests in the Aid Room. Though most duties will be in an office environment, some tasks may involve skiing and traveling via snowmobile and/or side-by-side in a winter mountain environment. During slower periods, other duties may be assigned to assist Ski Patrol Office Coordinator, Ski Patrol Director, and other Mountain Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • First Aid: Administer first aid and assist transportation of injured skiers or persons visiting or working at Sundance Mountain Resort Communicate via 2-way radio regarding incidents and status of first aid.
  • Transport/Evacuation: Properly package patients and transport via toboggan, snowmobile, and/or side-by-side.
  • Knowledge of helicopter protocols and location of landing zones.
  • Familiar with avalanche rescue procedures as well as the location and inventories of available rescue equipment.
  • Lift evacuation: Familiar with lift evacuation procedures and knows location of and use of lift evacuation equipment.
  • Public Relations: Be helpful and courteous to fellow workers and the skiing public.
  • Skier safety: Know the skier responsibility code and use it to advise skiers of the established rules.
  • Enforce ski area policies and procedures and update knowledge each year as necessary.
  • Equipment and building maintenance: Inspect condition of patrol equipment and keep patrol facilities clean and in good repair.
  • Be an Example of safe recreation and skiing practices at all times.
  • Clear and concise communication, incident management and record management
  • Consistent monitoring of the radio channel system and dispatch phone lines
  • Receive and record information accurately, and disseminate information to the appropriate parties via radio, phone or other platforms
  • Evaluate and prioritize incoming calls, including first aid and emergency calls
  • Understand what resources are necessary and available to mitigate various situations
  • Maintain awareness of resort conditions, lift status, weather, road conditions, and operational impacts
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and logs of radio transmissions, telephone calls and other pertinent interactions and information
  • Share information with appropriate parties to facilitate accurate messaging to guests/employees of terrain status
  • Maintain a calm demeanor, attention to detail and professional service while under pressure or in high-stress situations
  • Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training. Previous experience and knowledge at Ski Patrol Level I or higher of Sundance Ski Patrol operations preferred, but not necessary.
  • Previous dispatching experience preferred
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with internal teams and external partners
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in navigating multiple platforms and dispatching systems
  • The dispatch office operates seven days a week during the winter season. Weekend and holiday availability may be required based on business needs
  • ICS 100, Introduction to the Incident Command System
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite highly preferred. Operate 2-way radios for communication to other staff.
  • Must have current OEC or Utah EMT-B or higher medical certification.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

This position involves frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid environments, temperature extremes, moderate noise levels, and potentially hazardous situations. Employees may encounter risks related to medical care, accident and emergency scenes, road and rescue conditions, violence, theft, fire suppression, and other known or unforeseen hazards, and are responsible for acting within their training to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
