The Skateboard Zone Coach position will be responsible for the safety, vibe, and cleanliness of the Action Sports facilities around camp. Zone Coaches will be responsible for one (1) Action Sports facility per Zone Coach shift. Zone Coaches need to make sure campers are acting responsibly and respectfully to others and using the facility in a safe manner. They will be responsible for upholding energy within the park and for the cleanliness of the facility.    

  

The Skateboard Counselor position will be responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of all campers within assigned cabin throughout the day and from the time they return to the cabin for the evening to when campers are released to instruction the following morning. They will be responsible for assisting campers with any needs or challenges that arise during the week, referring to department leads as needed. This role provides you with the ability to connect with the campers outside of the park setting, and enhance the overall experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overall
  • Work a maximum of 40 hours, including coaching, zone coaching, counseling and recreation activities as assigned

  • Attend and participate in staff training, meetings and touch bases to acquire knowledge for behavior management techniques, emergency evacuation procedures, etc.

  • Ensure campers are acting responsibly, respectfully and following all camp standards

Coaching
  • Responsible for leading a group of 7-10 campers daily through 2 (two) instruction sessions for 3.5 hours daily

  • Create and implement  a lesson plan to ensure campers are learning new skills and meeting goals

  • Evaluate camper skill levels and discuss progression comparisons while providing feedback for ongoing skill development

  • Responsible for completing Progression Cards throughout the week for your instruction group of 7-10 campers

Zone Coaching
  • Make sure everyone is using the facility in a safe manner, and following proper skatepark etiquette

  • Engaged, playing music, creating games, developing challenges and assisting campers with skill development

  • Sweeping, clearing facility of all debris and hazards, picking up trash, putting disregarded belongings into the Lost and Found

Counseling
  • Assist campers in daily routine including chores, overall cabin/surrounding area cleanliness, travelling to program activities and meals

  • Create a cohesive and positive cabin experience amongst all campers in the cabin

  • Lead/Assist with Recreation Activities as scheduled

  • Counseling to include taking attendance with required night supervisor sign-off and enforcement of lights out

Other duties as assigned. 

BASIC SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS:  

  • As a requirement of this position, pre-hire criminal history clearances are collected from the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH) system, child abuse clearances are obtained through the Department of Public Welfare, and federal history is taken through FBI fingerprint screening. 

  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.   

  • Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.
