POSITION: Skate Guard – P/T Hourly Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Hockey Coordinator
The Skate Guard plays a key role in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive on-ice environment for all participants. This position emphasizes public safety, strong awareness, and proactive supervision during open skate sessions. The role is ideal for individuals with a hockey/skating background who are dependable, attentive, and enjoy being part of a team-oriented rink environment.
Responsibilities:
Monitor all on-ice activity to ensure a safe environment for players and skaters
Enforce rink rules and always promote safe behavior
Respond quickly and appropriately to incidents, injuries, or unsafe situations
Maintain awareness of all participants and anticipate potential safety concerns
Help set up and break down equipment (dividers, cones, music, etc.)
Contribute to special events, private rentals when needed
Assist with building operations during events, including setup, organization, and general support
Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
CPR certified
Strong skating ability (hockey skating preferred)
Ability to stay alert, make quick decisions, and handle situations calmly
Strong communication skills
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Availability to work evenings and weekends
Preferred:
Prior experience as a skate guard, coach, or hockey player
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Experience assisting with events, parties, or group activities
Schedule:
Part-time; evenings and weekends based on program needs
Hourly rate: $18.00
