DNV Energy Systems' Renewables and Power Grids Advisory group is seeking a Site Visit Inspector to join the Engineering, Environmental, Permitting & Sustainability (EEPS) department. This field-focused role will support construction monitoring, site observation, and in office technical work across large to small scale energy system projects.

You will serve as a field ambassador for DNV, documenting construction progress, quality observations, non-conformances, safety observations, and potential schedule impacts. You will work closely with civil, electrical, environmental, HSE, Owner’s Engineering, and Independent Engineering subject matter experts, while independently managing field logistics and producing clear, timely reports. This position can be located in our Houston, TX; Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; Medford, MA; or Portland, OR. offices, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Significant travel across the United States and Canada is expected.

What You'll Do

• Conduct site visits for wind, solar, battery energy storage, and thermal generation projects, including active construction sites and operating facilities.
• Observe and document construction progress, workmanship, installation quality, QA/QC activities, non-conformances, and potential schedule impacts.
• Support construction monitoring, Owner’s Engineering, Independent Engineering, due diligence, commissioning observation, factory visits, asset management, compliance reviews, end-of-warranty reviews, and root cause analysis.
• Perform field observations across civil and electrical scopes, recognize when specialist input is required, and coordinate promptly with DNV subject matter experts.
• Prepare accurate, concise, and timely site visit reports using approved DNV templates and digital / AI-enabled tools and participate in continuous improvement and operational efficiency activities.
• Participate in pre-visit planning by completion of the following: review of technical reports and drawings, job safety and environment analyses, site orientations, and post-visit closeout activities.
• Maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), trainings, certifications, and readiness for varied field conditions.
• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, project managers, site personnel, and internal technical teams in-person and/or in a virtual forum.
• Independently manage travel, availability, documentation, and competing field assignments in accordance with safety protocols.
• Support desktop technical and operational assignments during lower field-demand periods to maintain utilization and broaden capability and participate in continuous improvement and operational efficiency activities.
• Actively contribute to reporting of HSE incidents internally within DNV to promote a culture of continuous improvement.

The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. What is Required

• Associate degree or technical diploma in wind energy, renewable energy, electrical technology, civil/construction technology, engineering technology, or a closely related field; equivalent directly relevant field experience may be considered.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant field experience in wind, solar, battery energy storage, oil, gas, LNG, commissioning, renewable-energy construction, operations and maintenance, or construction inspection.
• Demonstrated interviewing, investigation, root-cause analysis, and evidence gathering skills.
• Demonstrated experience working safely on active construction or operating energy sites.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% domestically (US and Canada) and with potential to travel up to 10% internationally, including multi-day assignments and occasional short-notice travel.
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather and terrain and to use required PPE.
• Ability to climb ladders up to 160 meters in height.
• Strong organization, schedule-management, interpersonal, and independent decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and both interest and ability to learn DNV reporting and digital/AI-enabled tools.
• A valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license and ability to meet company travel and vehicle-use requirements.
• Ability to meet site-specific access, safety, background-screening, and drug-screening requirements.
• Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, detailed technical reports, presentations, and emails and explain technical observations to non-technical audiences in-person and/or in a virtual forum.

What is Preferred

• Wind turbine technician or traveling commissioning technician experience.
• Experience across more than one technology or sector: wind, gas, oil, LNG, data center, industrial facilities, solar photovoltaic, and battery energy storage systems.
• Construction QA/QC, Owner’s Engineering, Independent Engineering, lender’s engineering, or EPC oversight experience.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification or equivalent recognized construction-safety training.
• Certified safety Professional
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
• Wind turbine climb, working-at-heights, fall-protection, or fall-arrest training.
• HSE (including process safety and occupational health and safety) observation, auditing, and environmental compliance experience.
• Experience with renewable-energy commissioning, end-of-warranty inspections, distributed generation, rooftops, or carports.
• Experience creating field reports with photographs, issue tracking, and clear recommended follow-up actions.
• Ability to communicate in French for assignments in Canada, particularly Quebec.

Physical and Work Environment

• Frequent walking and standing on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
• Periodic climbing of ladders, stairs, platforms, or wind turbine structures when trained, authorized, and required for the assignment.
• Ability to carry and use typical field equipment and PPE, subject to the essential-function review and reasonable accommodation process.
• Work may occur around construction equipment, energized-facility boundaries, heights, noise, dust, heat, cold, rain, hazardous waste or emissions, and other site-specific conditions.
