Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire two Site Technician II's for the Office of Land Management. These positions will cut and place forms for concrete; make minor plumbing and electronical repairs; replace roofing and sides on buildings; use front end loader, tree spade, stump cutter, bobcat, and tractor mounted batwing mower; operate truck with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds with air brakes to transport mowers and equipment, mow grass, trim shrubs and trees, haul trash, plow snow and patch roads; inspect and maintain blinds and associated grounds for dove, waterfowl, deer, pheasant, and upland game hunting programs; assist with operation and maintenance of game propagation facility on as needed basis. Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, carries out semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of site buildings, groups and equipment at Des Plaines Fish and Wildlife area.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment by changing oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs and belts.
• Assists with the routine maintenance of site buildings and public use areas.
• Performs routine tasks related to natural resource programs.
• Assists in implementing safety and security at the site.
• Functionally supervises Conservation Workers engaged in routine maintenance and operational activities.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions.
• One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
• Requires possession of a valid Class A CDL driver's license with Air Brakes designation
• Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
• Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, buildings and grounds
• Ability to lift, carry and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
• Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification

Office of Land Management

The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Schedule 1: Sept 16th - Nov 1st, Sun - Thurs 7:00am – 3:00pm.; Nov 2nd - Nov 19th, Wed - Sun 6:30am – 2:30pm.; Nov 20th - Nov 22nd, Fri - Sun 4:30am – 12:30pm.; Nov 23rd - Jan 10th, Wed - Sun 6:30am – 2:30pm to accommodate various hunting programs, then Jan11th - Oct 31st, 2027, Sun - Thurs 7:00am – 3:00pm.

Schedule 2: Sept 16th - Nov 1st, Tues - Sat 7:00am - 3:00pm; Nov 2nd - Jan 3rd, Tues - Sat 10:00am - 6:00pm; Jan 4th - Jan 10th, Tues - Sat 9:00am - 5:00pm; Jan 11th - Oct 31st Tues - Sat 7:00am - 3:00pm
