Job Description

SGS Bateman’s multidiscipline engineering team provides integrated engineering services for processing plants and related operations. Using proven ISO methodologies enhanced by innovative approaches, the team transforms conceptual designs into operational manual processing plants of all sizes and complexities. An extensive suite of enhanced 3-D design tools and modeling software allow our engineering team to visualize all aspects of plant development.

To liaise with the project team and sub-contractors with regards to trends and forecasting of a project's progress.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Continuous analysis of project activities and project 'S' curves against plan.
  • Circulate alert reports, effects and recommendations to the Project Manager.
  • Produce and issue monthly planning report (project report) to Project Manager
  • Maintenance of project planning records for filing and archiving.

Technical Responsibility

  • Provide input into project strategy from planning and progress measurement aspect.
  • Compile and issue front end schedule by date to be agreed with Project Manager, utilising input from all disciplines.
  • Establish and issue key dates schedule by date to be agreed with Project Manager.
  • Prepare project network by date to be agreed with Project Manager.
  • Verify network logic against project strategy utilising input from all disciplines.
  • Establish critical path, freeze project schedule and issue as baseline document.
  • Integration of sub-contractor and vendor programmes into project network.
  • Verification, preparation and issuing of discipline schedules by date to be agreed with Project Manager.
  • Establish time standards and control measurements for all disciplines in liaison with cost engineering.
  • Set up control curves.
  • Ensure that commissioning considerations are established and catered for in the project schedule during baseline development.
  • All necessary reports issued, on time, as specified by the Project Manager.
  • Prepare, verify and have approved by the Project Manager project network and key date log by a date to be agreed with the Project Manager.
  • Yardstick Quality evaluation by Project Manager and Functional Manager with a degree of input from project team members.
  • Verification, preparation and issuing of discipline, sub-contractor and vendor schedules by a date to be agreed with the Project Manager.
  • Interface pro-actively with all other disciplines.
  • Continual audit of project network trends.
  • Produce plans to address project slippages, adverse trends or to cater for changing project scope/objectives
  • Play a lead role on projects where shutdown, tie-ins etc. take place in ensuring that planning in sufficient detail is prepared, monitor the interfaces and ensure that project commitments are achieved.
  • Manage KPA's of planning resources on large projects (Senior Planner).
  • Report on the outcome of all the above activities to the Project Manager and propose action plans to correct any adverse trends.
  • Motivate members of the project team to meet or beat schedule targets.
  • Undertake any additional tasks that may be required by the Site Manger

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum 3 years qualification i.e. Engineering, Construction will be advantageous
  • PMI, AACEI certification will be advantages

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years proven experience with large projects in an EPCM / EPCM/Construction/Engineering environment would be required within Projects / EPCM environment
  • Project Life cycle: Knowledge of the main project phases
  • Risk analysis: Ability to identify project and activates risks from any point of view
  • Controlling, scheduling & planning software: Familiarity and use of specific scheduling & planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.)
  • Change management: Ability to effectively and efficiently manage changes during the course of the project
  • Commercial Principles: Understanding of contract types and of their main features
  • Planning & Scheduling: Ability to plan using tools, methods and best practices.
  • Legislation & Standards: Knowledge of sector specific law e.g. Engineering, safety etc. and standard specifications e.g. Plant layout requirements etc.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of basic project management methods and all project lifecycle phases
  • Cost control: Knowledge of cost engineering principles: total cost management and total quality management etc.
