Job Description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Site Reliability Engineer.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our growing strategic team. You’ll contribute to the stability, scalability, and automation of our cloud-based production environments and play a key role in ensuring our services are reliable and high-performing.

You’ll support system availability, monitoring, alerting, SLOs/SLIs and incident response; deploy and manage containerised applications, contribute to CI/CD and Kubernetes GitOps practices; automate processes, and work closely with development, QA and operations teams to resolve complex issues and improve services.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Maintain and support production systems to ensure high availability, reliability and scalability.
  • Implement SRE practices, including monitoring, alerting, SLOs, SLIs and incident response.
  • Deploy, configure and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines to improve software delivery and deployment processes.
  • Automate operational tasks using Python, Bash, Go or comparable scripting languages.
  • Collaborate with development, QA and operations teams to resolve issues and improve services.
  • Participate in the on-call support rota and respond to production incidents promptly.
  • Document procedures, system configurations and post-incident reviews to support continuous learning and improvement.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Hands-on experience in SRE, DevOps or production support.
  • Practical knowledge of GCP, AWS or Azure environments.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; knowledge of Helm or Istio is advantageous.
  • Ability to use tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger or Datadog.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, FluxCD or Tekton.
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, Go or comparable languages.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex production issues.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible, plus exposure to microservices and high-availability environments.
