The CWLNG Site Quality Inspector (Civil - Structural) is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections, field testing oversight, and quality-record maintenance across construction activities to verify that project quality standards, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and required process controls are consistently achieved throughout the field build process.
This is a site-based position requiring extended stays away from home. Working closely with Construction, subcontractors, third-party testing agencies, the Site Quality Manager (SQM), and the owner/client as applicable, the Quality Inspector supports civil and structural quality activities while also providing inspection support across welding, piping, and mechanical scopes. The position promotes a strong quality culture, identifies and controls nonconformances, supports corrective actions, and helps ensure complete and accurate turnover documentation through project completion.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections relevant to civil, structural, welding, piping, and mechanical scopes of work, including mandatory testing required by project specifications and applicable standards.
- Perform in-process inspections of civil works, including inspection and issuance of concrete pour cards.
- Maintain the site concrete break log and ensure it is supported by third-party field reports from the testing agency.
- Inspect structural steel erection, structural components, miscellaneous supports installation, and associated testing activities.
- Coordinate third-party welding nondestructive examination (NDE), including daily inspection and testing activities.
- Maintain the site weld log in both hard-copy and electronic formats and support welder qualification activities.
- Assist the Site Quality Manager with selection of welding procedures, welder certification, weld inspection, material and weld tracking, turnover documentation, and MT and PT NDE testing.
- Monitor associated discipline work and prepare and issue required quality reports and forms; review inspection and test records for completeness and accuracy.
- Use measurement and calibrated tooling as required to perform inspection activities and verify conformance.
- Coordinate quality activities with area and discipline supervisors and with the owner/client when applicable.
Quality / Compliance Responsibilities
- Proactively enforce applicable Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), project specifications, engineering documentation, and quality requirements.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with ITPs and project specifications and verify that quality records and turnover documentation remain current.
- Identify, document, and control Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) related to the civil scope of the project; issue NCRs for identified deficiencies and support timely closeout.
- Follow up on inspection remediation, changes, and rework associated with NCRs across the disciplines involved.
- Assist the Site Quality Manager in administering the Project Quality Control Plan and Company Quality Manual.
- Assist the Site Quality Manager with corrective actions as needed and verify implementation through inspection and documentation review.
- Ensure adherence to applicable code requirements and verify that associated documentation and quality records are completed correctly and maintained.
- Verify through inspection that work is performed in accordance with approved procedures and that required documentation is completed thoroughly and maintained in accordance with company policy.
Documentation / Turnover Responsibilities
- Ensure timely completion of inspection paperwork, quality records, and turnover documentation and assist with project completion activities.
- Maintain both hard-copy and electronic inspection sheets and test data generated during the construction build effort.
- Maintain turnover books on site and support periodic audits to confirm documentation is complete, current, and traceable.
- Review records and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness before inclusion in turnover packages.
- Support material, weld, concrete, inspection, testing, NCR, and corrective-action traceability as required by the project quality program.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or equivalent AWS qualification.
- 20+ years of experience in related QA/QC inspection roles supporting civil, piping, and mechanical disciplines.
- Ability to read and interpret piping and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete required pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Verifiable field work experience.
- Ability to travel and work at the project site for extended periods away from home.
Role Specific Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings.
- Ability to independently perform routine Inspection and Test Plan activities without supervision.
- Working knowledge of civil and structural construction inspection practices, including concrete placement, concrete testing records, structural steel erection, and miscellaneous supports.
- Knowledge of welding inspection activities, welder qualifications, weld tracking, and coordination of NDE activities.
- Proficiency in the use of measurement and calibrated inspection tooling.
- Ability to identify quality deficiencies, document nonconformances, and follow remediation and corrective-action activities through closeout.
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to maintain accurate hard-copy and electronic quality records and turnover packages.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with Construction, subcontractors, third-party agencies, quality personnel, and owner/client representatives.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Technical competence and general understanding of software, hardware, networks, and related tools as required to support electronic quality records and project activities.
