Reporting to the ASIA/EMEA Site Methods Leader, the Site Methods Engineer is responsible to prepare erection/dismantling procedures and associated inspection sheet books related to our Hydro components (i.e. Turbines, Generators, Main Inlet Valves (MIV), Hydro Mechanics (HM), and Balance of Plant (BOP)) installation activities in accordance with contractual requirements and GE Vernova internal standards (e.g. Inspection Test Plans (ITPs)).
To ensure all site methods activities are carried out with the highest standards of Environnement Health & Safety (EHS), and Quality in a manner that safeguards the environment.
To ensure that all methods deliverables are undertaken in full compliance with GE Vernova policies and procedures, in addition to applicable Indian and international legislation and contractual requirements.
To support site installation teams across the full project lifecycle (i.e. from tendering stage through on-site execution up to project close-out) by delivering clear, safe, and technically robust procedures, lifting plans, and inspection documentation. Machining, lifting, and 3D measurement topics will be part of regular activities.

Roles

  • To ensure all site methods activities are developed and implemented according to the highest standards of EHS and Quality, always safeguarding both personnel and environment.
  • To ensure all methods deliverables are produced in full compliance with GE Vernova internal governance, client policies and procedures, and applicable Indian and international legislation.
  • To prepare, review, and issue project-specific erection procedures, method statements, inspection sheet books, and Complex Lifting Plans (CLPs) for Hydro components.
  • To effectively support and coordinate with site supervisors, Construction & Commissioning (C&C) experts, project managers, supply chain, and engineering teams to execute projects in line with GE Vernova and client expectations, schedules, and budgets.
  • To ensure accurate site methods records, procedures, and quality documentation are created, maintained, and archived in accordance with GE Vernova internal governance and quality plans (e.g. Corella document management system).
  • To supervise, guide, and mentor junior engineers within the Site Methods team in the preparation of methods deliverables.
  • Able to travel within India and internationally when required by project needs.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Operations:

  • Promote safe working practices and drive continual improvement in site safety culture through all methods activities and deliverables.
  • Responsible for placing EHS as the highest priority in the conceptualization and preparation of all methods, procedures, and lifting plans, ensuring all documents reflect safe, user-friendly, and practical approaches for site teams.
  • Provide early-stage EHS feedback to engineering teams through Design Reviews (DR) and synopsis reviews, to integrate safety requirements into equipment and component design before site mobilization.
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of detailed project-specific erection/dismantling procedures for all Hydro components (Turbine, Generator, MIV, HM, BOP), covering each assembly step and its auxiliaries within the scheduled duration, with clear measurement points and acceptance criteria.
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of project-specific inspection sheets aligned with ITPs and contractual requirements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of Complex Lifting Plans (CLPs) in accordance with synopsis, transportation inputs, and applicable lifting regulations.
  • Responsible for reviewing and validating method statements and erection procedures submitted by erection contractors or vendors, ensuring full compliance with engineering, quality and EHS standards.
  • Coordinate with C&C Experts and Lead Supervisors to incorporate operational experience and EHS requirements into project-specific method statements and the internal knowledge database (e.g. Confluence).
  • Interface with the Quality team to support ITP implementation, including participation in NCR (Non-Conformance Report) reviews where C&C methods are implicated.
  • Provide technical support to supply chain teams, including review of vendor documents and participation in technical clarification meetings or supplier visits.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering teams during synopsis reviews and Design Review participation.
  • Provide on-site technical support to installation teams as required, including site visits within India and internationally.
  • Informing the Site Methods Leader and relevant Project Manager of any site non-compliances, technical deviations, or risks identified within methods deliverables.
  • Responsible for reporting progress, risks, and document status to the Site Methods Leader and relevant Construction & Commissioning stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and experience in the field of site methods, procedures, and lifting operations for rotating hydro equipment.
  • Capable of working independently in problem-solving and technical decision-making while keeping stakeholders appropriately informed.

Deliverables:

  • Responsible for organizing methods deliverables to agreed project schedules and executing within pre-set timescales and quality standards.
  • On-time delivery of erection procedures, inspection sheet books, and CLPs per project schedule milestones.
  • Zero LTI (Lost Time Incidents) attributable to methods deliverables or lifting plan design.
  • Full compliance of procedures with EHS and contractual requirements at point of issue.
  • Timely closure of internal and external document review cycles.
  • Demonstrate adequate skills in interpretation, optimization, and application of GE Vernova policies and engineering standards to achieve key deliverables.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and continuous improvement within the Site Methods team and the broader C&C community (e.g. Confluence updates).

Education / Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or Technical Diploma in a related Mechanical or Structural Engineering discipline.

Specific Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of erection and dismantling procedures for complex rotating mechanical assemblies, ideally within the hydropower or heavy power generation sector.
  • Knowledge and experience of lifting operations, and applicable standards and regulations (Indian statutory frameworks including Factories Act 1948, BIS standards; and international standards where applicable).
  • Basic knowledge of welding and machining processes as applied to site installation and refurbishment activities.
  • Computer literate — proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and familiar with CAD software (NX or AutoCAD e.g.).

Business Understanding:

  • Knowledge and experience of Construction and Field Services site work within the power generation or heavy engineering industry.
  • Understanding of the project lifecycle from tendering through execution to close-out, and the role of methods engineering within each phase.
  • Familiarity with document management and quality systems (e.g. Corella, PDM/PLM platforms, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in methods team, or site engineering role within the power generation, heavy engineering, or ideally hydropower sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and review of procedures and method statements for complex mechanical assemblies — turbines, generators, or equivalent rotating equipment.
  • Experience in the preparation of lifting activities and associate documents with knowledge of rigging, handling, and transportation of heavy components in a site environment.
  • Knowledge about 3D measurement, metrology, and dimensional control techniques applicable to turbine and generator assembly (alignment, clearance checks, geometric verification). Being able to develop inspection plans and identify related measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of site machining operations (e.g. on-site boring, turning, surface preparation) as applied to hydro equipment installation or refurbishment.
  • Experience working with Design Review processes and providing installation feedback/input to engineering teams at an early project stage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both internally across multidisciplinary teams and externally with clients, contractors, and site teams.
  • Strong written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Experience working on international projects or within multicultural teams is an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites within India and internationally as required.
  • Knowledge and experience with Siemens NX (3D design) and AutoCAD (2D drafting) is a strong asset.
  • Must be prepared for pre-employment screening, including reference checks and background checks.
