Job title: Site IT Lead

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the Site IT Lead will oversee and coordinate all IT operations at our mine site in Northern British Columbia, being responsible for the uptime and performance of critical IT networks and systems, and ensuring IT continues to meet the evolving needs of the business.

This role involves driving continuous improvement to monitoring and management capabilities, ensuring enterprise and site standards compliance, managing and executing IT projects, providing technical support escalation to the site IT team, and working with the broader Skeena IT team of in-house and outsourced partners to implement strategic technology solutions. This is a key role in ensuring that the department delivers the IT services at site to meet the day-to-day needs, in addition to supporting the IT requirements of construction and the path to a producing, operating mine.

As part of a performance driven, user experience centric IT team, the individual will be tireless and proactive in their pursuit of “making things better” while showing a mature understanding of risk and impact. As a senior technical resource, the individual will provide technical escalation to the site IT team, act as a technical lead on strategic and ad-hoc IT projects and assist IT decision making and reporting by providing IT performance data and analysis.

The Skeena IT department is a service function to the business; thus, the individual will have a “customer service” mindset, looking to delight end users at all levels of the business and build relationships with key site-based positions. The individual will be part of a passionate, motivated IT team with high expectations of themselves and each other, delivering on an incredibly exciting mission to construct and then operate a world class, technology forward mine in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Oversee, manage and support key site IT infrastructure, including internet connectivity, firewalls, switches, wireless links, and servers
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for IT support service delivery
  • Provide on-site user support and troubleshoot technical issues as required
  • Own site IT performance monitoring tools and drive continuous improvement of monitoring capabilities, dashboards, and reporting

Projects & Leadership

  • Perform technical implementation roles on a range of IT projects and coordinate with IT and non-IT vendors
  • Provide on-the-ground operational decision-making and technical guidance for the IT team
  • Support the IT Manager with performance management activities for the site IT team

Governance & Documentation

  • Collaborate with the IT Director to develop and implement IT policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular system audits, gather audit evidence, and generate reports
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, system inventories, and hardware and software inventories

  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computing, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Microsoft certifications in Azure and Endpoint Administration (e.g., AZ-900, AZ-104, MD-102, MS-102), or equivalent professional experience.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Experience / Skills:

  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, hypervisors, identity management systems, switches, firewalls, and servers.
  • Proven experience providing end-user technical support and troubleshooting complex IT issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Certifications in, and experience with, Fortinet and Ubiquiti network administration and Proxmox virtualization are considered assets.
  • Experience supporting and managing industrial wireless technologies, including Rajant mesh networks, is an asset.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting VHF/UHF two-way radio systems is an asset.
  • Experience in the mining, construction, or similar industrial environments is preferred.
  • Experience working and living at a remote site and working rotational schedules is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated passion, enthusiasm, initiative, and a strong desire to learn and grow professionally.

Work Locations & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities, in a variety of geographically diverse locations requiring the operation of a company truck to travel between.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.     
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$90,000 - CA$110,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia, with a remote work location and 2 and 2 shifts.
