Job Description

IEM is seeking a Full-Time Site Inspector to support our continued growth. The Site Inspector conducts field inspections, documents site conditions, and ensures adherence to project standards and applicable safety and compliance requirements. This role is critical to identifying issues early, supporting accurate records for program decisions, and communicating clearly with property owners and project stakeholders.

Primary Location:

  • Live anywhere that meets remote work requirements in the United States including Puerto Rico.   
  • Work will take place either in the field,in an office environment,or remotefrom a personal location and will depend on the need of the project.  
  • Schedule may include work on weekends or more than 40 hours per week.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position will require travel to the state of New Mexico to complete work assignments or attend meetings. Travel and other expenses are reimbursable in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations or DoD regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of assigned locations using predefined checklists, procedures, and program guidelines.
  • Document findings accurately and comprehensively, including notes, photos, and required forms.
  • Identify and report potential issues, hazards, or non‑compliance concerns; escalate urgent safety matters immediately.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the team lead regarding progress, barriers, and inspection outcomes.
  • Coordinate with property owners/customers in advance to schedule visits; when unavailable, leave a written notice per program procedure
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize required PPE during field activities.
  • Support data integrity by uploading, naming, and storing documentation per project standards.
  • Provide professional, courteous communication to internal teams, external partners, and property owners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Twelve (12) years prior work as a Site Inspector, Field Inspector, Damage Assessor, or similar inspection/field documentation role.
  • Degree: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience and Degree Substitution: Associates or higher degree in a relevant field and 10 years of experience may be considered in lieu of the full 12 years of experience listed.
  • Proficient with the use of mobile inspection tools and digital photo/document management.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, or safety practices used in field inspections.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to follow inspection protocols; proactive risk identification.
  • Comfortable with fieldwork, including walking sites, standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting light equipment.
  • Physically fit and able to hike to remote properties at elevations of 10,000 feet above sea level and higher.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to sites across New Mexico; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in disaster recovery, mitigation, housing rehabilitation, or infrastructure inspection.
  • Familiarity with federal or state recovery programs (e.g., FEMA, HUD CDBG‑DR) and related documentation practices.

Additional Information:

  • Field WorkField-focused role with frequent travel; exposure to outdoor conditions (heat, cold, uneven terrain).
  • Personal Office / At Home Locations: All personal office / at home work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purpose of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.
  • Office Locations:Often, these offices are either owned by the client we work with or by IEM. All candidates are expected to follow any rules and regulations of the office in which they are required to work for that project
