Job Description

GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.

Our Naval team in Whetstone get involved in solving exciting challenges through leading the development and delivery of the engineering aspects of our projects. These projects range from designing, de-risking and delivery of new power / propulsion and energy system solutions alongside digital & automation technologies to our UK and international customers both to surface and submarine systems.

This facility plays a crucial role in de-risking, present and future platforms, energy and propulsion technologies, micro grids and associated systems and solutions for both surface ships and submarines.

As Site Facilities Maintenance Assistant you will work with the existing Site Facilities Manager to take on day activities of the site to ensure smooth operation.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and repairs to maintain a safe and efficient facility.

  • Conduct minor mechanical repairs, troubleshoot equipment and support maintenance on building facilities systems.

  • Provide an interface to the site manager of any issues.

  • Carry out painting, minor repair and minor installations work to maintain facility appearance.

  • Ensure outdoor areas, including landscaping, pathways and parking areas, are clean, safe and well maintained.

  • Support project installations of new equipment, infrastructure improvements and facility upgrades.

  • Safely operate forklifts and mobile elevation platforms to move materials and access elevated areas for maintenance work

  • Follow workplace safety regulations, maintain tools and equipment in safe working order and report hazard issues.

  • Waste management, keep work areas tidy, maintain stores, assist where required.

Skills & Qualifications Requirements

  • Educated to GCSE level or above

  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools without supervision.

  • MUPE and Forklift certificate desired but not essential training will be given.

  • PC Microsoft skills.

  • Qualifications relevant to some or all of the aspects of the role desirable.

  • Existing or the ability to obtain the higher levels of UK Security Clearance, including “SC Clearance” and “UK Eyes Only Clearance”, are required for this role.

  • Experience in a similar role desirable but not essential

  • Knowledge of painting, plumbing, mechanical, grounds and general maintenance. Good DIY standard.

  • Good team player, able to work with and assist others.

  • Self-motivation is key, being able to work on their own.

The applicant must be a sole national British citizen and have a valid UK passport and a valid full UK driving licence.
