Join us on Kā Huanui a Tāhuna, a major project in Queenstown, as a Site Engineer – Pavements This is one of the biggest projects in the South Island right now, and it’s a seriously good place to build your career. The work is complex, the standards are high, and the opportunities to grow are real.
This is a great role for someone with around 3 years’ site engineering experience who wants to grow fast, get stuck in, and help shape how the work gets done. We’re planning and delivering pavement works across granular and surfacing, and we’re looking for someone with the right attitude above all else. If you’re adaptable, grounded, keen to learn, and happy to roll up your sleeves, you’ll fit right in.
You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with supervisors, project engineers and the wider crew to plan, set out and deliver day-to-day construction works safely, on time and to specification. Pavement or surfacing experience would be a real plus, but it’s not critical. What matters most is that you’re switched on, open to feedback, and ready to build your career properly, not just pass through.
This role can grow with you. The more energy, thinking and ownership you bring, the more opportunity there is to take on planning work and broaden your impact. On a project of this scale, there’s plenty of room to learn, contribute and overachieve.
Key role responsibilities:
Good work, good benefits
At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us.
We’re looking for someone with:
Project Scope: Kā Huanui a Tāhuna is an alliance established in November 2020 between Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, along with four design and construction companies - Beca, WSP, Downer New Zealand and Fulton Hogan. The programme of works includes Queenstown Town Centre Street Upgrades, Queenstown Town Centre Arterial – Stage 1, Lakeview Infrastructure, NZ Upgrade Programme – Queenstown Package, and Wakatipu Active Travel Network.
This exciting and challenging programme of work aims to improve safety and accessibility, enable an improved public transport system, provide more options for walking and cycling, and benefit the community and its visitors.
With delivery across Tāhuna Queenstown, each project involves upgrading underground infrastructure followed by enhancing the street to make a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians, cyclists and people using public transport – all part of building the Queenstown Town Centre Masterplan.

You’ll be joining a team that’s low ego, hard working and aligned. Success is shared here, and the team backs each other properly. There’s plenty of experience around you to learn from, and plenty of recognition when the work goes well. We’ve had an awesome season, our processes are well ironed out, and there’s strong momentum heading into the next stage of work.
At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is how we show up for each other as much as what we deliver. We’re flat, friendly and forward moving. Titles matter less than ideas. We take the work seriously, not ourselves. And we back good people to grow, take ownership and make their mark.
