About the Role

We are looking for a Site Engineer to join our North East Link - Hoddle to Burke project

The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV. The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.


The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

  • 6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
  • 3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
  • Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
  • Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

Role responsibilities

This role is responsible for delivering on-site engineering services and technical support to ensure the effective short-term planning and programming of works in alignment with project requirements.

The role also contributes to the successful implementation of EHBA’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) Management Program.

  • Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and lead by example to promote a positive safety culture
  • Participate in daily pre-starts, task briefings, and safety initiatives
  • Prepare and implement Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Work Packs, permits, and Work Area Plans (WAPs)
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and design documentation for construction
  • Support the communication of design requirements and changes to supervisors and subcontractors
  • Assist with short-term planning, daily programming, and lookahead schedules
  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials, plant, and subcontractor services
  • Track and record costs for labour, plant, and materials to support budgeting and forecasting
  • Assist with cost-to-complete forecasts and financial reporting
  • Support preparation of progress claims and subcontractor payment assessments
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and quality checklists
  • Coordinate and manage witness and hold points in line with project requirements
  • Support the coordination and performance of subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants
  • Assist in defining scopes of work and evaluating subcontract tenders

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction, Building, Science, or related discipline
  • 3–5 years’ engineering experience in construction or infrastructure projects
  • Strong technical and construction management capability within relevant discipline
  • Experience in planning, programming, and delivery of complex projects
  • Knowledge of project systems, audits, scheduling, and performance reporting
  • Experience in document control and project reporting processes
  • Exposure to structural works
  • Experience across various contract models (e.g. D&C, Alliances, Joint Ventures)
