Job Purpose
The Structural Engineer provides expert guidance and oversight on the structural integrity, stability, and performance of construction projects from conceptual design through to execution and post-construction assessment. This role involves working closely with engineering, project management, and construction teams to ensure compliance with design standards, safety regulations, and material specifications. The Structural Engineer ensures that all structural components are designed, analyzed, and executed efficiently, ensuring durability, safety, and cost-effectiveness while mitigating risks associated with large-scale construction and heavy industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Health & Safety:
Adhere to and enforce relevant legislation and policies and ensure that highest degree of safety and safe working practices are maintained.
- Functional:
Structural Compliance & Oversight:
- Ensure adherence to structural engineering best practices, project specifications, and compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Review and validate structural designs provided by the consultant to ensure feasibility, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Coordinate with the construction company to oversee implementation of approved structural plans, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Structural Design Review: Evaluate structural design submissions from the consultant to verify compliance with project requirements.
- Load-Bearing & Stability Assessment: Ensure proper load distribution and stability of the structure throughout different project phases.
- Coordination with Consultant & Contractors: Act as a liaison between the project team, consultant, and construction company to resolve technical challenges.
- Reinforcement & Strengthening Strategies: Assess the consultant’s recommendations and oversee implementation of structural reinforcements.
- Foundation & Structural Modifications: Ensure proper execution of foundation designs and necessary structural modifications as per approved plans.
- Site Inspections & Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections to monitor contractor compliance with approved designs and safety standards.
- Demolition & Reconstruction Oversight: Supervise structural demolition and reconstruction work, ensuring stability and adherence to engineering principles.
- Material Selection & Testing Oversight: Review material specifications and testing reports provided by the consultant and contractor.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify potential structural risks and recommend corrective measures in collaboration with the consultant and contractors.
- Technical Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate structural records, reports, and design modifications for project transparency.
Value Engineering & Cost Optimization: Ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining structural integrity and safety.
Education, Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (preferred).
- Professional certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer), PMP (Project Management Professional), or equivalent is an advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in structural analysis and design for industrial facilities, particularly high-load and high-temperature structures.
- Proficiency in structural engineering software (e.g., SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, AutoCAD, Revit).
- Strong knowledge of steel and concrete structures, including load calculations and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with international structural codes (e.g., ACI, Eurocode, BS, Egyptian Code for Steel & Concrete Structures).
- Experience in material selection and fatigue analysis for heavy industrial applications.
- Ability to conduct site inspections, structural audits, and quality control assessments.
- Understanding of construction methodologies and their impact on structural stability.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 5 years in industrial or heavy construction projects (cement, steel, oil & gas).
- Proven track record of designing, evaluating, and supervising the construction of large-scale industrial structures.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary project teams, coordinating with civil, mechanical, and safety engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot structural issues and implement corrective actions efficiently.
