The opportunity
Electrical Engineering research, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. An Experienced Professional (P2) applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. May require the following proficiency: Works independently with general supervision. Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex. May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.
How you'll make an impact
The core of the role involves performing complex simulations to predict how a bushing will behave under extreme stress.
Mapping electric field distributions to prevent corona discharge and insulation breakdown. This includes calculating the E_{max} (maximum electric field) at shield ends and condenser layers.
Simulating "skin effect" and ohmic heating in the conductor to ensure the bushing operates within thermal limits (IEC/IEEE standards).
Evaluating the structural integrity of porcelain or composite insulators against cantilever loads, wind pressure, and seismic vibrations.
Designing the optimal radial and axial distribution of capacitive layers (fine-tuning the length and diameter of aluminium foils) to achieve a uniform electric field.
Simulating the performance of different insulation media, such as Oil-Impregnated Paper (OIP), Resin-Impregnated Paper (RIP), or Resin-Impregnated Synthetics (RIS).
Type Test Simulation: Virtually replicating BIL (Basic Insulation Level) lightning impulses and power-frequency withstand tests.
Root Cause Analysis: Using simulation to investigate failures during real-world testing or field operations to identify design flaws.
You will be ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Living Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your actions while caring for colleagues and the business.
