Position Simulation Lab Technician - Temporary

Compensation:

The estimated pay for this position is $28.1494 to $37.8304. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Under the general direction of the Vice President, Strategic Development and working closely with the Simulation Lab Director, Staff Development, faculty, and volunteers, to produce high quality education activities. This position assists the Simulation Center with activities surrounding simulation events.

Essential Functions:

  • Operates and maintains Simulation Center equipment, manikins, models, training equipment, audio/visual, computer, and materials related to simulation learning in the healthcare setting
  • Maintains the Simulation Center case scenarios
  • Supports/assists in role playing applications, props placement, and moulage set-up to create a virtual health care environment and experience
  • Operates life-like manikin patient simulators based on priorities identified by the educators.
  • Assists with training resident physicians, faculty, nurses, and medical students in the use of simulation equipment
  • Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal and external groups and/or individuals
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment needed for simulations
  • Engages in educational endeavors to maintain literacy and ability with simulation technology and use to facilitate learning
  • Assists with scheduling simulation activities and skills rooms
  • Assists with sign in lists, feedback forms and surveys
  • Provides simulation support in the Simulation Center for associates, resident physicians, medical students, nurses and faculty to meet course objectives through simulation
  • Promotes patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assists with the management of risk and safety issues
  • Generates utilization reports as requested
  • Performs educational research activities such as data collection and analysis

Additional Duties:

  • Works with the Simulation Lab Director to develop self-directed learning and improvement
  • Works closely with IT on the management, maintenance, and implementation of Simulation Center required Software (operating systems, applications, simulator software)
  • Maintains and provides general upkeep of Simulation Center (Dishes, minor janitorial services, etc.)
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Employment Standards:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree in technology or health-related field preferred.
  • Experience in simulation operations and training with at least one (1) year healthcare-based training experience, either hospital or EMS, required
  • Previous experience in instructing basic and/or advanced life support training preferred

Knowledge of

  • General knowledge of anatomy
  • Working knowledge of medical equipment, AV systems and medical terminology
  • Proficient using MS Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; computer literacy and technical ability with Windows OS, Google Chrome, etc.

  • Express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons, including developing and using standard operating checklists
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Work independently and as part of a team

Supplemental:

Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.

Dependent upon assignment, applicants may be required to pass an extensive background investigation, and be fingerprinted. Disqualification for felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

All Kern Medical employees are designated “Disaster Service Workers” through state and local laws (CA Government Code Sec. 3100-3109 and Ordinance Code Title 2 - Administration, Ch. 2.66 Emergency Services.) As Disaster Service Workers, all county employees are expected to remain at work, or to report for work as soon as practicable following a significant emergency or disaster.

If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
