Job Description Summary:

The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a full-time faculty to support clinical education, with an emphasis in clinical simulation within the prelicensure nursing programs. This is a clinical track position; rank and salary are commensurate with experience.

The faculty member will facilitate student learning and competency development primarily through clinical hands-on laboratory instruction, simulation-based education, and competency assessment. The faculty member will advance student success by promoting safe, evidence-based nursing practice while fostering clinical judgment, professional behaviors, and confidence in patient care.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will contribute to course, curriculum, and simulation development, implementation, and evaluation activities. The clinical faculty member will also participate in service-related activities that support the mission of the School of Nursing. Opportunities to engage in clinical practice through the School of Nursing Faculty Practice Plan may be available.

The faculty member will also participate in service-related activities that support the school and possibly engage in clinical practice through the School of Nursing faculty practice plan.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Teach in clinical skills and simulation laboratory nursing settings to include prebriefing, debriefing, evaluation of performance using competency-based rubrics, provide formative feedback and coaching, and collaborate with clinical laboratory operations staff to ensure efficient and safe learning environments.
  • Provide real-time observation and coaching to support safe, effective clinical practice; evaluate student performance using standardized tools and narrative feedback.
  • Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation activities including simulation scenario development and refinement.
  • Participate in service-related activities (such as serving on committees/task forces, mentoring students, etc.) to support the mission of the school.

Required Qualifications

Education: Graduate degree in Nursing.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Possess a registered nurse (RN) license from the Kansas State Board of Nursing (or be eligible for RN licensure in Kansas).

Work Experience:

  • One (1) year of clinical nursing practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Certification in simulation (CHSE) or nursing education (CNE).

Work Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in lab and clinical environments.
  • Experience in simulation-based education or facilitation.
  • Experience as a preceptor in a clinical environment.
