Operates a commercial paving machine to ensure proper placement and quality of materials on paving projects. Works collaboratively with the paving crew to ensure proper material placement, grade, and finish while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
This position may include mobile work assignments across our Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska footprint when assigned to a mobile crew.
• Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Operate asphalt paving equipment to ensure proper distribution, depth, and alignment of materials in accordance with project specifications
• Communicate effectively with crew members using hand signals, radios, or other methods to coordinate paving operations and maintain workflow efficiency
• Guide and direct dump trucks safely into position for material transfer into the paver hopper
• Monitor paving operations to ensure consistent material flow, mat quality, and adherence to grade and slope requirements
• Perform routine pre- and post-operation equipment inspections, including checking fluid levels, greasing components, and identifying maintenance needs
• Conduct basic preventative maintenance and promptly report mechanical issues or repairs needed to minimize downtime
• Operate additional tools and equipment as needed to support paving and site operations
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to overall site safety and efficiency
• Safely operate company vehicles to travel between job sites and company facilities, when authorized
• Work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions and adjust to changing project demands and schedules
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 3+ years of related experience and/or training in operation of a commercial paver and related equipment preferred
• Ability to read and interpret documents, i.e., safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required
• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role
• Regularly uses hands to move and manipulate objects needed for tool use, equipment operation, and manual tasks
• Regularly communicates (talk and hear) to coordinate work, receive instructions, and maintain job‑site safety
• Regularly stands for extended periods and moves across various surfaces or terrain to access different work areas and complete assigned tasks
• Regularly climbs on and off equipment and walks across uneven terrain to navigate field sites safely
• Regularly works from a seated position for extended periods to operate equipment and vehicles requiring continuous control
• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and experiences vibration from operating equipment
• Regularly works outdoors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to dust and airborne particles
• Regularly works near fuels, oils, and other common workplace chemicals associated with operating or supporting equipment and machinery
• Regularly works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs
• Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete field tasks
• Occasionally works at heights, near, or under electrical hazards when tasks require elevated access or proximity to electrical components
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required
Compensation*: $28.00 - $36.00 DOE
*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
