Job Description

Job Title: Silversmithing Instructor

Department: Art Studios and Gallery

Rate of Pay: $75 for first student in class, additional $50 for second student, $25 for each subsequent student, plus gratuity at guests' discretion. Group classes are paid at $75 for the first student, and $25 for each additional student plus guaranteed gratuity per student. $16.50 per hour for non-class related work.

Shift: Part-Time, Year Round Position

Variable days and shifts depending on scheduled classes

Instructors must report to work 30 minutes prior to each class and remain 30 minutes afterwards to clean up.

Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Provide instruction in jewelry making techniques in but not limited to silversmithing, stone setting, and beading.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create transformational experiences for each guest.
  • Discuss student goals and assess level of proficiency.
  • Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the occasion arises.
  • Assist guest in his/her creation.
  • Maintain studio area.
  • Request and stock necessary supplies.
  • Support the recycling program.
  • Maintain equipment and tools used in jewelry studio.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical silversmithing skills are essential; the teacher must be proficient in metallurgy, soldering/joining, shaping, and finishing techniques. Familiarity with silversmithing tools and vocabulary is required.
  • Prior teaching experience is required.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one or more years of apprenticeship or education in art related field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret art instructional material and manuals for equipment required.
  • Ability to communicate instructions and technique to guest/students. Must have very good communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Employee must regularly work with open flame, metals, chemicals, and tools appropriate for jewelry making.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
